ALP-NC Now Accepting Applications for Cohort 3 - 2024

North Carolina's Disability Rights movement needs YOU! Share your story and become an advocacy leader.


ALP-NC empowers individuals to effectively use their voices and network with other motivated, enthusiastic advocates to drive systemic change.

Are you:


  • An adult with a intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD)?
  • A family member or caregiver of someone with lived experience with I/DD?
  • An in-field professional supporting people with I/DD?
  • Committed to systemic change for disability rights and inclusion?


If you answered YES to any of these questions, we'd love for you to apply!


This program is designed for a diverse group of up to 15 participants, representing a range of experiences, backgrounds, and accessibility needs. We're looking for individuals who share a commitment to championing systemic change for disability rights.


This cohort helps you develop leadership and advocacy skills through:


  • Peer-guided workshops that explore different types of advocacy, including self, collective, peer, and systemic;
  • Storytelling exercises to inspire action in the disability space; and
  • Access to a network of people and resources for personal and collective advocacy.


Cohort 3 combines weekly Zoom sessionsalternating between small group learning team meetings and large group sessionswith self-paced learning materials. Zoom sessions are held at 12 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning August 14, 2024 and concluding with a final story sharing and graduation session on October 23, 2024.
