It's that time of year again | |
Dear Hoboken,
With the start of the new school year fast approaching, we are excited to announce the launch of our Back to School Reading Challenge. From August 11 to September 30, we're encouraging young readers and Mile Square Summer Reading Challenge participants to keep up their independent reading.
To join us, simply sign up for the challenge by using our Beanstack website or by downloading the app. Once registered, you can begin tracking your reading progress and earning exciting prizes, such as raffle tickets and Jibbitz charms, for every 100 minutes of reading!
As part of our commitment to promoting lifelong learning, we also encourage caregivers to explore our educational resources, such as Brainfuse, Hoopla, and Miss Humblebee's Academy, for a rewarding Back to School experience!
Regards,
Jennie Pu

Featured Title
Ghost Music: A Novel
by An Yu
|
"From the author of the "original and electric" Braised Pork (Time), An Yu's enchanting and contemplative novel of music and mushrooms follows a former concert pianist searching for the truth about a vanished musician. For three years, Song Yan has filled the emptiness of her Beijing apartment with the tentative notes of her young piano students. She gave up on her own career as a concert pianist many years ago, but her husband Bowen, an executive at a car company, has long rebuffed her pleas to have a child. He resists even when his mother arrives from the southwestern Chinese region of Yunnan and begins her own campaign for a grandchild. As tension in the household rises, it becomes harder for Song Yan to keep her usual placid demeanor, especially since she is troubled by dreams of a doorless room she can't escape, populated only by a strange orange mushroom."

The Farewell Tour: A Novel
by Stephanie Clifford
|
"It's 1980, and Lillian Waters is hitting the road for the very last time. Jaded from her years in the music business, perpetually hungover, and diagnosed with career-ending vocal problems, Lillian cobbles together a nationwide farewell tour featuring some old hands from her early days playing honky-tonk bars in Washington State and Nashville, plus a few new ones. She yearns to feel the rush of making live music one more time and bask in the glow of a packed house before she makes the last, and most important, stop on the tour: the farm she left behind at age ten and the sister she is finally ready to confront about an agonizing betrayal in their childhood."
