Publication Update

New in 2024

Front cover of Cents and Sensibility, 8th edition.

In June, we will release the latest edition of PATF's award-winning Cents and Sensibility: A Guide to Money Management. The 8th edition features two new chapters: "Investing for My Future" and "Identity Theft," along with an expanded chapter on decision-making.

First published in 2013, the guide has expanded in size and scope with contributions from educators and content experts across Pennsylvania.

The 8th edition of Cents and Sensibility will be a valuable classroom resource for Pennsylvania educators teaching personal finance to students with disabilities.

(In December 2023, the Pennsylvania legislature passed a state-mandated personal finance requirement for high school graduation for the 2026-2027 school year.) The content is appropriate for Grades 9 through 12 and older adults who want to take control of their financial lives.

"We want to offer individuals with disabilities the tools they need for financial wellness," said Karen Hassett, PATF Director of Financial Education. "Cents and Sensibility is a great starting point."

The latest edition addresses the unique financial needs of students with disabilities; however, every learner will benefit from the information and activities contained in this publication.

Also, we are excited to introduce FINN, our peer guide, new to this edition of Cents and Sensibility. FINN will provide information that can help learners understand the concepts in this book and provide helpful resources that offer a deeper dive into the topic.

Our next newsletter in June will provide information on downloading a 508-compliant, fully fillable version or requesting a print version of the 8th edition. We will also be promoting our guide on social media and in webinars. Stay tuned!

We Need You!

We at PATF believe everyone should have the tools to live their best financial life and weather financial downturns. So, this summer we will post a financial tip every Friday on our social media platforms. However, we need a title. Please send us your suggestions for the title of PATF's financial Friday tip to communications@patf.us. We will announce the winning title and the winner in a future newsletter!

We would also like to mention that financial education plays a critical role in families teaching their children how to manage money. The earlier you start, the better. To learn more, download A Family Companion to Cents and Sensibility: A Guide to Money Management.
