Take Action Against Mosquito-Borne Diseases
Although the weather is beginning to cool down, mosquitoes continue to thrive in neighborhoods as long as it's warm in the San Gabriel Valley. Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile disease have been detected in Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel Valley area recently.
West Nile Virus (WNV) is transmitted to people and animals through the bite of an infected mosquito and has no known cure. Approximately one in five individuals infected with the virus will exhibit symptoms, including fever, headache, body aches, nausea, or a skin rash. Severe cases may lead to paralysis or even death.
Some ways to control mosquitoes include:
- Removing stagnant water on a weekly basis.
- Wearing insect repellents to protect against mosquito bites.
- Residents can also request a free property consultation by vector control specialists from the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District. These experts can help identify and address mosquito breeding sites on private properties.
To access more resources and information and to schedule a property consultation, visit SGVmosquito.org.
