Join Us for Fire Service Day on May 13


Next Saturday, May 13, the San Gabriel Fire Department will be hosting Fire Service Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fire Station 51 located at 1303 S. Del Mar Avenue.


Community members are invited to meet their local firefighters and watch demonstrations including rescue operations, emergency medical operations and fire suppression. This event will provide a "backstage" look at the job along with tours of the fire station.


Community booths offering information on fire prevention, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and other local organizations will be present for community members to enjoy. 


The event will also celebrate the 110th birthday of the San Gabriel Fire Department, which originated on May 12, 1913.

Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters on May 4 to 7


In support of the national campaign by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, from dusk to dawn on Thursday, May 4 through Sunday, May 7, San Gabriel Fire Stations 51 and 52, Mission Playhouse and the historic Mission District will light up in red to commemorate fallen firefighters in San Gabriel and across the nation.

Have Coffee with a Cop on May 9


Please join the San Gabriel Police Department (SGPD) as they host Coffee with a Cop on Tuesday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Paris Baguette (708 W. Las Tunas Drive). The public is invited to meet their San Gabriel police officers over a cup of coffee.

Free Compost Giveaway for San Gabriel Residents

on May 13


On Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., San Gabriel residents can receive free compost and mulch at a drive-up, self-service giveaway event located at the Smith Park parking lot (via Clary Ave). Hosted by Athens Services, the compost is a blend of organics material including a mix of green waste, wood waste and food scraps.


Residents will have to bring an ID or bill to provide proof of residency and bring a sturdy container to shovel their desired amounts of compost. Gloves and eye protection are also recommended.
