Perry was founded in 1824 and named in honor of Oliver Hazard Perry, a War of 1812 hero. Perry began as an antebellum industry, including gristmills, sawmills, and cotton gins. Perry was formally incorporated in 1824 as the first municipality in Houston County.
Perry is now known as a premier community of choice and truly “Where Georgia Comes Together.”

Join us for Sweets & Treats in Downtown Perry on October 25 from 5-7 PM!
Put on your favorite Halloween costume and enjoy trick-or-treating in a safe, family-friendly environment. The streets will be closed, allowing everyone to explore the local businesses and collect treats.
Interested in getting involved? If your business or organization would like to participate as a vendor and hand out candy, applications are now open!

Fall Warehouse and Sidewalk Sale | |
The Historic Downtown Perry merchants will host the Warehouse & Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, September 7, in Downtown Perry!

Sidewalk Sale | 10 AM - 4 PM
The Warehouse & Sidewalk Sale seeks to bring residents and visitors an opportunity to shop the downtown stores at discounted prices as they prepare for the fall season!
In addition to setting up on the sidewalks of Downtown Perry, retail businesses will set up shop inside the Perry Events Center. This addition offers shoppers an extensive selection of discounted items conveniently located under one roof!
It is suggested that customers come to the sale with cash as cash is preferred by many merchants during Sidewalk/Warehouse Sale.

Perry Trash Dash Registration Now Open | |
The Perry Trash Dash will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.!
This City-wide event is designed to support community engagement and promote clean and vibrant neighborhoods!
The first 150 registrants will receive a free event t-shirt. Beginning at noon, participants will have the opportunity to stay and tie-dye their t-shirt!
Participants will meet at the Perry Events Center (1121 Macon Road) between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. to pick up supplies (trash bags, grabbers, gloves, etc.) and t-shirts. Extra supplies can be returned to the Perry Events Center upon completion of the event.
Trash can be dropped off at bag drop locations throughout the City during the course of the event or can be arranged for pick up by City staff.

contains a staff of firefighters providing fire protection, emergency
medical services, technical rescue operations, fire safety education,
fire cause investigation, and fire code inspections to a population of approximately
23,000 over 28.5 square miles.
