Dear Beloved Community,

We are excited to invite you to a special Father's Day Vigil for the closure of Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles, California. In collaboration between Dignity and Power Now, Essie Group, Justice LA, and Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity, this will be a day of prayerful action, reflection, and solidarity as we come together to advocate for justice and the restoration of families.

On June 22, 2021,  the LA County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to close Men's Central, and the jail was supposed to close in 2023.  However, under the auspices of the Sheriff's Department, the jail continues to conduct business as usual, thereby placing at risk the health and safety of thousands of men due to the jail's unsanitary conditions--and often abusive treatment of these men by Sheriff officials.  Since the start of 2023, 57 people have died in Los Angeles County jails and, so far this year there have already been 12 deaths. It's past time for Men's Central to be closed immediately. Come and learn about alternative solutions.

At this vigil, we will reimagine justice and discuss the importance of closing Men's Central Jail to save lives, restore families and communities.

•  Testimonies from Those Directly Impacted by MCJ and Mass Incarceration
•  Spiritual Grounding
•  Light Refreshments
