Los Angeles, January 13, 2022 – It’s time to Live Large in 2022 as LA Animal Services joins Best Friends Animal Society and 18 participating shelters throughout California to help big dogs find new homes. Thanks to a grant from The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles, the Live Large in 2022 adoption campaign kicks off in LA on Saturday, January 15, and will cover the adoption fees of 200 dogs as the six LA Animal Services Centers saw a surge of medium- and large-sized dogs coming into the shelters over the past several weeks, while being challenged with rising Omicron cases affecting approximately 11 percent of full-time staff.

The Live Large in 2022 adoption campaign will run from January 15 through January 31 to help place as many big dogs with families.
- The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles will cover the adoption fees for the first 200 dogs (not including license fee for LA City residents) adopted during the campaign.
- Once 200 dogs have been adopted using the grant from The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles, Best Friends will offer reduced adoption fees of $22 (not including license fee) for dogs weighing more than 40 pounds.
For animal lovers looking to adopt a cat or kitten, adoption fees for feline companion animals are waived thanks to a grant from the ASPCA. Adoption fees for puppies (dogs four months and under) are not part of the promotion. And when you adopt or foster one of these amazing canine companions, you’re not only saving the life of that dog, but also creating much needed life saving space for a lost, sick, or injured animal who will make their way into our shelter with nowhere else to go.”

Our six LA Animal Services locations are operating without appointments every Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 5pm. We will continue to operate by appointment during the week, Tuesday through Friday, for pet adoptions, fostering, and owner surrender, with Centers closed on Mondays. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment. Appointments may be scheduled by going online or by calling 1-888-452-7381.
To follow COVID-19 safety protocols, social distancing will be observed and face coverings will be required when in our Centers.
Per City Ordinance 187219, you will need to show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of entry into the shelter. You can request a digital COVID-19 Vaccination Record if you were vaccinated in California (unless you were vaccinated at a federal facility) by visiting MyVaccineRecord.cdph.ca.gov.
