Clerk’s Report


The Session of John Knox Presbyterian Church met on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall for their monthly Stated Meeting. The following are some of the items discussed:



1.   The finances were reviewed. Monthly giving is strong. Capital Reserve Account reflects an insurance payout for hail damage from May 2023.

2.   They are searching for a new CPA firm to do the annual review and the triennial audit.

3.   The Congregational Nominating Committee was elected at this morning’s Called Congregational Meeting.

4.   The Security Subcommittee is planning training meetings with the Ushers and Greeter/Guardians.


Christian Education

1.   The ten-week Combined Sunday School class begins on June 2 and will study Proverbs.

2.   The Women’s Faith and Fellowship dinner was on May 7 and Sandy Garrett presented a beautiful program on seeing God through nature.

3.   They are busy starting the planning for Embark Sunday.


Christian Mission & Outreach

1.   The John Knox Habitat workday will be on May 25.

2.   There will be a school supply drive for Lake Forest in July.

3.   Greer Relief is excited about their new space, and they are looking for summer volunteers.

4.   They are looking at how to work with VBS and the local pantry on Shannon Drive.

5.   They are planning a hot meal for Triune Mercy Center on July 21.



1.   The property map of the campus for inclusion in the Welcome Packet should be ready soon.

2.   Bread Ministry is going well. They are working on a new signup sheet for the bakers.

3.   The next Step & Repeat photo opportunities will be VBS and Father’s Day.

4.   They are investigating a new sermon podcast format.



1.   Today’s Field Day went great.

2.   Signups for this fall’s Supper Club should start soon.

3.   The next WNS program will be on relationships on May 22 by Gloria Marcus.


Music and Worship

1.   Josh is planning a fall organ concert.

2.   The summer worship schedule will remain at 10 AM through Embark Sunday in August.

3.   They are looking to expand the Committee including several Youth members.



1.   The meal team is staying busy with requests.

2.   In-Home Communion is going well.

3.   They coordinated two Memorial Receptions.

4.   There will be youth centered training for the Side-By-Side Ministry.


Property & Operations

1.   Electrical work in the PDO, K/G and Adult Sunday School areas will start on May 28.

2.   The steeple repair will run from June 3 – 7.

3.   They are looking at the need for permanent storage space for Side-By-Side Ministries.

4.   The big refrigerator in the Kitchen needs repair or replacement.


Susan Felton – Children’s Ministry

1.   VBS is June 9-12. They have fifty children signed up.

2.   The VBS project this year will be a “Little Free Pantry.”

3.   They had a nice Family Hike in Conestee Park on May 5th.


Carter Rief – Youth Ministry

1.   Fun in the Son will be June 23 through 28.

2.   The Great Escape will be July 22 through 27.


Rev. Justin Cazel

1.   They had a good group for M-3, the largest in three years.

2.   June 27 will be the Men’s Fellowship outing.

3.   The Generosity Team is working on Stewardship Strategies.


Dr. Gordon Turnbull

1.   Work is continuing on the Child/Youth/Vulnerable Adult policies.

2.   These updates are particularly important for the Respite Care participants.
