Behind The Scenes

Jimmy Tip:

Have a PAWsome Day!

It's National Pet Day! Time to celebrate our furry (or feathery, or scaly) best friends. This is a chance to shower our pets with the love, treats, and belly rubs they so richly deserve while also doing our part to help any orphaned pets out there.

Are you Team Dog? Team Cat? Team Anything But a Dog or Cat? Each species has their own quirks.

Dogs: Masters of the "guilty but adorable" look after chewing your favorite shoes. Experts at turning a simple walk into a tug-of-war competition with the leash. Always up for an adventure, even if that adventure involves digging a crater in your prized flowerbed.

Cats: Champions of the side-eye stare. Olympic-level nappers. Undisputed rulers of the house, despite being the size of a loaf of bread. Experts at leaving "gifts" (hairballs, anyone?) in the most unexpected places.

Other furry (or feathery, or scaly) friends: From mischievous hamsters to chatty parrots to the ever-judgmental goldfish, every pet has its own unique personality (and talent for causing chaos).

WE WANT TO SEE YOUR PET! Share a picture on the Downtown Chamber's social media accounts and use #NationalPetDay.

Best,

Jimmy Olsen

Member Spotlight!

April is National Volunteer Month!

We'll be spotlighting some of our non-profit organization members who rely on volunteers to help accomplish their missions.

Food Bank of Iowa

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Food Bank of Iowa. Annually, caring people volunteer more than 34,000 hours at FBOI to ensure fellow Iowans have enough to eat.

Volunteers sort, repackage, and box millions of pounds of food. They fill backpack sacks. They help with office work, assist at events, and serve as ambassadors. Wonderful volunteers allow them to fulfill their mission.

IRS April Newsletter

The IRS has released its annual list of the Dirty Dozen, which represents the worst of the worst tax scams. Many of these schemes peak during filing season. See the list here.

The IRS announced that almost 940,000 people across the nation have unclaimed refunds for tax year 2020 but face a May 17th deadline to submit their tax returns. It is estimated that more than $1 billion in refunds remain unclaimed because people haven't filed their 2020 tax returns yet. Click here for more information.
