Greetings Friends and Fans of Jefferson Market Garden!

      Spring
is finally here and we are welcoming it with flowering trees, tulips, daffodils and other special spring flowers. It seems like it has been a long winter and we missed all of you!

Even though the Garden had a closed sign on the gate, changes were taking place. Sadly, two trees had to be removed. We found that it was the right decision as they were rotted through and could have posed a danger to visitors. Now we have a flowering Stewartia Tree as another focal point in our Garden. Look for other trees to be joining her soon. In addition, our Garden Designer Susan Sipos has already started underplanting with shrubs, perennials and Native Plants all the new open areas created by the loss of our trees.

Two new seating areas have been created to provide even more benches where visitors can linger and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Garden and perhaps catch site of the birds and butterflies we will be enticing with bird-friendly plantings.

Our bird initiative has been formalized with the support of an anonymous donor and in consultation with Glenn Phillips, Executive Director of the New York City Audubon, who gave of his time and expertise to guide us in how best to attract and keep birds in our Garden. Look for new habitats for our feathered friends.

As the seasons progress, we are anticipating a redesign of our Rose Garden, more care for our beloved aging trees and more colorful displays in all our flower beds.
