Japan Summer Festival, a free celebration of Japanese culture

The Japan Society of Greater Hartford (JSGH) presents its 9th Annual Japan Summer Festival, a free celebration of Japanese culture that will be held on Sunday, June 9th , at Webster Walk in Blue Back Square, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.


The festival features a powerful Taiko drumming performance, a Japanese marketplace, origami, crafts and games, a Yukata experience, and traditional dance and martial arts demonstrations. 


PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

12:00 pm - Opening speech by the Consulate General of Japan (Boston)

12:10 pm - Shishimai by Steve & Ako Long (Lion Dance)

12:20 pm - Radio Exercise by Miharu, Jorge & Kai Wismar (Japanese Radio Callisthenic)

12:30 pm - Jukido Jujutsu by Jukido Jujutsu Dojo, West Hartford

1:00 pm - Music performance by the Japanese Language School

1:30 pm - Yozan Martial Arts by Yozan, LLC, Cromwell, CT

2:00 pm - Obon Dance by Steve & Ako Long

2:30 pm - Japanese Tea Ceremony by Stephen Wallace & JSGH volunteers - Learn the principles of tea ceremony, savor Japanese sweets, and enjoy Macha Green tea

3:30 pm - Calligraphy Demonstration by Masumi Komatsu & JSGH - Make letters with traditional brush and ink.

3:00 pm - Ame-no-Taiko (Drumming group from Montreal, Canada)

4:00 pm - Obon Dance (Japanese Festival Folk Dance)

4:15 pm - Japanese Drumming by Ame-no-ato of Montréal, Canada
