January Highlight: MLK Day Service Project

at Shortlidge Academy

Last week at our Shortlidge Academy Club location, members learned and discussed the life and works of Dr. King, led by Club Director Robert Azubuike. After discussing community involvement, our Club kids then participated in a service project to become active members of their community. Each member received a glove and picked up trash from the school playground to improve the area for classmates and friends.

Program Feature: Greater Milford Power Hour

After hearing that athletes at Milford High School didn't have a place to go between school and practice, our Greater Milford Club sprung into action! Leaders partnered with the school to provide a safe space for athletes.

Boys & Girls Club staff now oversee students in a classroom at the high school, allowing the athletes to complete and get help with homework assignments before practice.

Club Activity: No Puff Daddy Visit - Rapping about Prevention

Our New Castle Club recently hosted Rapping About Prevention (RAP). Led by "No Puff Daddy" Sterlen Barr, Rapping About Prevention delivers a high-energy performance using facts, humor, personal experience, and teamwork exercises. RAP teaches the importance of maintaining a positive, drug-free, safe, healthy and active lifestyle to encourage our Club members to make smart choices.
