Push yourself again and again. Don’t give an inch until the final buzzer sounds.― Larry Bird

Happy New Year Fellow T&C Families and Friends,

I hope everyone is ready for the spring season which is only a few weeks away. This is a special year at T&C - 2024 is our 50th Anniversary!!! Back in 1974 some very committed and forward-looking parents decided to create a safe place for neighborhood kids to learn, play and enjoy the benefits of sports. Through hard work and countless hours of volunteer efforts their dream has grown into the 90+ acre campus we now know as T&C Sports. We are looking forward to another amazing year and we have lots of plans to celebrate this special year.

The campus is currently still mostly closed as we rest our fields and establish the winter turf. We will slowly begin to open on a staged basis over the next several weeks. Fortunately, we have had mostly favorable growing conditions so far this winter and the fields are looking good.

Although we have had more gym space challenges than usual, basketball is underway and going well.

Registration for Flag Football, Soccer, Baseball, Softball and Lacrosse are all currently open. Some have registration space limitations so please remember to sign up as soon as possible and reserve you child’s spot. Check the website for upcoming season events which will be starting soon.

T&C will be hosting several events over the coming year to mark our 50th so remember to follow us on Facebook, check the website often, and read your newsletters to stay up to date on all that will be going on at T&C this year.

As always at this time of year we are looking for volunteer coaches for all our spring sports. Coaching is a very rewarding and fun way to get involved at T&C. It is a great opportunity to spend time with your children and have more control over practice schedules, so I encourage all you parents to reach out to the league commissioners in your child’s sport and “Come Out & Play With Us”.

I hope you and your families enjoyed a very healthy, safe, and happy Holiday Season and I look forward to seeing all of you out on campus this year!

SPORTS UPDATE

Calling All Coaches

Please consider volunteering to coach. With spring around the corner, we are in need of coaches across all our sports. It's a great way to learn new skills, share precious memories, and spend quality time with your kids and their team mates.

Coaching youth sports is a rewarding opportunity for you to learn, play, and grow alongside your kids. If you haven't considered stepping up to coach, we encourage you to give it a shot regardless of your skill level. It's all about having fun, making memories, developing new skills, and learning what it means to be a team.

We are currently looking for Coaches, Commissioners, Board Members, and Game Day volunteers for the upcoming Spring sports programs.

T&C Sports 50th Anniversary

2024 marks a major milestone in the history of T&C as it is our 50th year of providing sports and programs to the youth of North Austin.

TOWN & COUNTRY OPTIMIST CLUB

The Town & Country Optimist Club was incorporated in 1974 by a small group of northwest Austin families to provide recreational sports and programs for area youth. For the first three years baseball, softball and soccer games were played on land loaned to the Club by the developer of Forest North Subdivision. In 1977, the Club purchased approximately 12 acres for permanent facilities near Forest North Elementary School which was T&C’s home until 1985.

In 1984, having outgrown the 12-acre property the club purchased 35 acres at the end of Meadowheath Drive. Construction of the first fifteen playing fields, drainage ditches and parking areas took place over the next two years and all T&C activities transferred to the new facility in 1986. In 1995, an additional 36 acres to the east (currently the 20’s Fields) and 11 acres to the south (currently the 30’s fields) were purchased by the Optimist Club T&C continued to grow.

The beautiful 90+ acre campus you see today is the result of our participant registrations, private donations, fund raising and millions of volunteer hours of work. The facility is owned by the Town and Country Optimist Club, and operated by the Town and Country Optimist Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, under the brand name of T&C Sports. T&C does not receive any public money from any state, county, or local government agency and has grown to be one of the largest privately owned youth sports facilities in the state of Texas. We currently offer seven in house sports programs on thirty+ playing fields and service more than 5,000 kids each year. The Club also supports youth development through involvement in selected youth-oriented community activities.

So, donations, grants, and sponsorships are always very welcome and much appreciated.

The Club promotes the ideals of Optimist International (See Optimist Creed Below) and strives to provide opportunities for all who wish to participate and to promote an environment of learning and sportsmanship in all activities.

Promise Yourself

  • To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
  • To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
  • To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
  • To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
  • To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
  • To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
  • To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
  • To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
  • To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
  • To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

If you are interested in becoming involved and joining us in our mission, please contact the office at office@tandcsports.org or call us at 512-331-0438 to learn about becoming a Town and Country Optimist Club Member.

CAMPUS UPDATE

Watching grass grow and paint drying may not sound all that exciting but, as we welcome 2024, the T&C staff is working diligently to improve our sports fields and facilities. Our fields are resting and getting nutrients. We are painting bleachers and tables. Our pre-season field light audit and light replacement is a January/February task. We continue working to make T&C better. We’ll see you soon. Happy New Year!
