Meet Kelvin Kaspar!
The Arts Hub is delighted to add Guitarist Kelvin Kaspar to our group of music educators! Kelvin began playing music professionally when he was sixteen. He formed a band with high school friends and played all over Wisconsin performing a variety of popular music. His love for music then led him to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he graduated with a Jazz Performance degree on guitar. Since graduation in 2008, Kelvin has a wide variety of sideman performance credits including Wayne Newton and Saturday Night Live cast members. Kelvin has also performed alongside a variety of touring musicians such as vocalists Typhanie Monique, Raquel Rodriguez, Janet Planet, B3 organist Ben Paterson and trombonist Natalie Cressman. Music has brought Kelvin all around the United States but locally he can be seen performing with The Pocket Kings, Tae and the Neighborly, Stephen Cooper and Nobody Famous, Stuck on Blue, The Celebration Church Worship Team and many other small ensembles.
Kelvin works regularly as a session musician on guitar and many other string instruments throughout Wisconsin. His credits as a performer and arranger can be found on works from NBC’s The Masked Singer, Janet Planet’s Grammy Nominated “Just Like A Woman”, Blue Dream Studios (Los Angeles, CA) and jingle writing for Narrator Tracks (Oshkosh, WI). Along with performing and recording, Kelvin is current on staff at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for Jazz Guitar.

Performers in this class will practice valuable techniques for thinking on their feet. They will work together to create imaginative worlds as they perform scenes and play improv games that are sure to make others laugh.
The final project will be an improv show for a community audience.
This class for middle school students, grades 5-8, introduces participants to the basics of improvisational theater.

FRANKLIN
Library Exhibit Room
Dec. 16-Feb. 10
Franklin, a traveling exhibition on view at the Waupaca Area Public Library, from December 16 2023-February 10 2024, explores the origins of a beloved Peanuts character.
Charles M. Schulz was a perceptive observer. He was always curious, and with his wit and wry sense of humor, he opened minds and hearts that others could not. Shortly after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Los Angeles school teacher, Harriet Glickman, believed that the popular comic strip Peanuts could positively influence attitudes on race. Due to their correspondence, Charles Schulz introduced Franklin to his cartoon in the summer of 1968. Franklin has remained an important member of the Peanuts Gang ever since.

The Waupaca Historical Society | | |
The Waupaca area, along with the Chain O'Lakes, were long home to the Menominee Indian tribe and are the ancestral homeland of the Menominee peoples. The Menominee and Ho-Chunk, as well as others of the 12 American Indian Nations of Wisconsin, cared for the lakes, rivers and forests of our state. The Waupaca River's falls and the nearby lakes provided an abundance of water, vegetation and wildlife for peoples here and traveling through. For many years, the Menominee moved around the area as the seasons changed, traveling from their villages, likely on Taylor and Otter Lakes, to camps on the Waupaca River.
By the 1830s, the largely uncharted lands in Wisconsin had attracted the interest of white settlers. In a series of seven treaties, the Menominee ceded their lands to the United States. The final treaty, in 1848, relinquished the last of the Menominee’s land, which included Waupaca.
In June 1849, the first white settlers--five men from Vermont--traveled from Plymouth, Wis., to Waupaca, looking for "the falls." The men claimed land along the Waupaca River at what is now North Main Street in the city of Waupaca. These early settlers came to Waupaca looking for the "The Falls" that they'd heard so much about. Eventually the settlement took its name from a Menominee word “Wāpahkoh” meaning, “Place of Tomorrow Seen Clearly.” The word also denotes a place in the Menominee language, not a person’s name or title.

Spread the LOVE in 2024!
Some wisdom from our Finance Director, Tammie Jo Berg:
"There was a post on social media that I resonated with regarding putting never-ending pressure on ourselves for the New Year, and instead offered the idea of promising to be kinder to ourselves and pledge to rest before our bodies need it. Let's strip away a layer of perfection to reveal the flawed and wondrous humanity we truly are. We are looking at another year being gifted to us, that is full of beauty if we look. And if we can only find the beauty, we would also find peace."
