Stay-Home Order Lifted in Marin

Improved forecasts prompt state to move county back to purple status

The surge in COVID-19 across the Bay Area is showing signs of slowing, leading the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to lift the regional stay-home order for the Bay Area and statewide, as of Monday, January 25th, 2021.

CDPH conducts forecasts to predict increased regional intensive care unit (ICU) bed availability across the state. New projections from the show the Bay Area’s ICU capacity above 15% four weeks from now, meeting the criteria to exit the regional stay-home order. All 11 counties in the Bay Area, including Marin, will move into the purple Tier 1 within the Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Dr. Matt Willis said face covering, physical distancing, frequent testing, and avoiding indoor gatherings are the best ways to prevent another surge.

Temporary Location for Skate Board/Scooter Park for consideration at February 17th Council Meeting

At its January 20th meeting, the Town Council received a resident petition to discuss a location for a skate/scooter park. During the discussion, the group broached the idea for a temporary location for the skate/scooter park. The Council indicated it would agendize the consideration of a temporary skate/scooter park location at its February 17th meeting. The residents group is proposing a temporary skate/scooter park in the western section of the Bank Street / Pavilion parking lot (see map below)

The virtual Town Council meeting on February 17th starts at 6:30pm. The agenda packet for the Council meeting will be available February 12th at www.townoffairfax.org.

Less than 500 doses per day available in Marin through February 6

Marin County’s network of health care partners is coordinating efforts to streamline COVID-19 vaccine distribution and is committed to moving as quickly as possible to vaccinate the most vulnerable.

Unfortunately, vaccine scarcity is a shared problem.

“We want to set expectations that match our supply,” said Dr. Matt Willis, Marin’s Public Health Officer. “Unfortunately, there’s a mismatch between the number of people expecting the vaccine now and the amount we’ve been given. All of our health care partners have the staff, operations and clinics ready, and all are eager to vaccinate more residents as soon as we receive more doses.”

Along with counties across the state, Marin is facing a lean week for vaccines. Across all major health care partners combined, including Marin County Public Health, MarinHealth, Kaiser Permanente, and Sutter Health, less than 500 doses per day are available for residents to be vaccinated with their first dose during the week of February 1. That amounts to less than 1% of the county’s population.
