Dear friends,
River City Food Bank (RCFB) saw a staggering 50% increase in demand from 2020 to 2024. What was once considered monthly emergency food aid has evolved into families relying on our services each week to meet basic needs, including housing. Because of your generosity, RCFB is a critical resource for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
In 2023, River City Food Bank distributed more than three million pounds of food to a record 308,005 people, a 20% increase in food provided from the year before. This would not be possible without the incredible support of our team, donors and volunteers – thank YOU!
Chang shops at River City Food Bank to support her family of five. She works 15 hours per week, takes English classes and hopes to find a full-time job soon. In the meantime, Chang is grateful for the help with groceries from RCFB and says, “I like to cook for my family and could not get vegetables if I did not come here.”
As we embark on another year, I am thankful for your compassion. Your support means that Chang, and any parent struggling to make ends meet, can prepare healthy meals for their family.

Near the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op, Robbie makes his home in a tent, bravely facing the challenges of mental illness.
Candid about his struggles, he yearns for more support. Today, amidst the camaraderie, compliments pour in for his new hoodie, revealing his admiration for Van Gogh's art and life story. Robbie, feeling a kinship with the artist's bouts of "craziness," laments the absence of a safe space.
In this vulnerable situation, River City Food Bank serves as Robbie's refuge, offering warm greetings and familiarity. Grateful for the attentive volunteers and staff who accommodate his dietary needs, Robbie, 72, requests extra bananas due to weakened teeth.
In the harsh winter streets, he acknowledges the unsuitability for someone his age, making RCFB a vital source of care and nourishment in his challenging journey.
