January 2023 Newsletter

A Letter from Executive Director

On the days after my 33rd birthday, and an unforgettable trip to Mexico City, I could not be more excited and grateful for what 2023 has in store for all of us! My tenure at the LCAC has so far been filled with adventure, healing, joy, pride, and so much love.

I am happy to share we surpassed our end-of-year goal - raising over $23,000 of our intended $20,000. It warms my heart to see so many of my family and friends listed below. Our growing network of grassroots supporters spans Colorado and reaches as far as California, Texas, New York and beyond! On behalf of the entire LCAC Team, Thank YOU!!

Here is to breaking ground at Las Bodegas and making history in 2023!

¡Feliz año nuevo!

Adelante,

Alfredo Reyes

Job Opportunities

LCAC in CDMX for the Opening of  "Miradas Divergentes"

Images by photographers Delilah Montoya and Juan Fuentes

The LCAC welcomed 2023 with the National Mexican Art Alliance in Mexico City for a photography exhibition in honor of Elena Poniatowska (Mexico's grande dame of letters). Now in her 90’s, she is a prolific writer and journalist who fights for women's rights and advocates on behalf of society's most marginalized members.

Each of the eight members in the Alliance selected two photographers to represent their cities. The LCAC proudly selected Juan Fuentes and Delilah Montoya from the #LCACollection for the bi-national exhibit at the Elena Poniatowska Foundation House, which opened on January 13th.

The LCAC Launches the 3rd Season of the Public Arts Mentoring Program with Artist Jolt

The LCAC Public Art Mentoring Program is in its 3rd season with the goal of creating a pipeline of fresh talent! They will have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of public art, along with the interpersonal and technical skills needed to become a public artist.

This week, we welcome returning students from Colorado Charter High School to be mentored under muralist JOLT from Guerilla Garden. Their next project will be wrapping Los Mesones Taqueria on West Colfax and Meade in murals.  In the future, the students will work alongside the LCAC Team to bring a youth leadership element to the activation of Las Bodegas. A special “thank you” to our partners at the West Colfax Improvement District and Los Mesones!
