Michigan Achievement Scholarship |

The Michigan Achievement Scholarship is the newest State of Michigan scholarship program that has the potential to impact more students than any other State scholarship program! High school students and parents interested in learning more are encouraged to register for an informational webinar provided by Michigan Department of Treasury’s MI Student Aid team. Participants will be able to gather the following information: · Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligibility requirements · Michigan Achievement Scholarship award amounts · Important action items for students and families · Additional resources and program information All sessions are free of charge and open to the public.

College-going Culture Elements
- College Talk - Clear communication about what it takes for college access and success. Conversations take place in ongoing manner, and teachers and administrators share their own experiences.
- Information & Resources - Students have access to comprehensive and up-to-date resources. Faculty are aware of available information and incorporate into daily classroom practices.
- Comprehensive Counseling Model - Entire counseling & advising team serve as college counselors so that all decisions about coursework and career options are made with postsecondary goals in mind.
- Family/Adult Advocate Involvement - Family and or Adult advocates are provided with information about the college application process and encouraged to view the student's “college materials.”
- College Partnerships - Creating strong partnerships with local colleges and universities so that students can take courses, visit campuses, etc.
Applicants are required to receive a letter of support from the Principal and attend two to four virtual coaching sessions identifying programming associated with the selected college-going element(s) and the intended outcomes. The ultimate goal of the College Bound Mini Grant Program is to provide the support and knowledge needed to shape the college-going culture within the school by increasing baseline data in college/HS enrollment, graduation rates, PSAT/SAT scores, FAFSA/Financial Awareness, and/or Persistence.
The College Bound Mini Grant Program will support building a project plans up to a total of $2500 per school per approved program/initiative. Up to (8) middle and or high schools will be selected. The grant period is for March 1, 2023 - June 30, 2023.

Student Transition & Engagement Program Coaches Application

As a response to the continuing enrollment declines caused by the Covid-19 crisis, the Detroit Regional Chamber and Detroit College Access Network are scaling our summer melt efforts for the region’s students. We are hiring Regional STEP (Student Transition Engagement Program) coaches with the experience and knowledge to navigate the support mechanisms that are necessary to address any student’s case. Regional STEP coaches will be hired in Detroit, Wayne County (outside of Detroit), Oakland County, and Macomb County. Please review the details for this position below and share this opportunity with anyone in your network you feel would be a good fit for this role.
The Opportunity Regional STEP coaches will be hired to address the needs in Detroit and the Tri-county area. These coaches will be responsible for reaching out to schools/organizations in their respective county to create awareness for summer support. The coaches will also support the class of 2023 students via virtual meetings, texts, and emails to aid in completion of next steps to ensure successful enrollment. Summer support for students will cover the following topics, which are informed by important milestones in the college matriculation process:
- College applications
- Financial aid
- Financial planning
- Housing/food/transportation
- Enrollment transition
We anticipate that Regional STEP coaches will work with a caseload of up to 250 students. Summer support/outreach will run from April 3 - August 18th. Coaches will receive $5,000 over the duration of the summer.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Support

Students and Families looking for help paying for college are encouraged to register for a Virtual College Financial Aid Night provided by Michigan Department of Treasury’s MI Student Aid team. Participants will be able to gather information on the following financial aid topics:
- FAFSA application information
- Federal financial aid programs
- State financial aid programs
- Scholarship searching resources

The deadline to register for the scholarship portal is February 15, 2023. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2023.

Michigan College Month Data Submission
|
|
If your school or organization is signed up to participate in College Bound Michigan, a suite of initiatives designed to build and support college-going culture and outcomes, your Michigan College Month data was due on December 15, 2022. If you have not submitted your data already, you're in luck because the data submission deadline has been extended to January 15, 2023! To submit, log into your CBMI portal that you created when you registered. If you need support submitting your Michigan College Month data, please email Ashley Lane-Barrett @ alane@detroitcan.org to set up a support session.

MACAC is now accepting session proposals for the 2023 MACAC Annual Conference, Navigating Uncharted Waters, March 9-10 at the Eberhard Center in Grand Rapids.
Proposals will be accepted through Jan. 24, 2023. Presentation priorities include, but are not limited to, diversity/inclusion and access, technology, professional and personal development, and current legislative work related to college access. Collaboration across professions, organizations and institutions is encouraged. |
