Message from the President . . . . .

Greetings CVOA members,
Happy New Year to all our CVOA members. I hope the start of 2023 bodes well for your participation in many of our member activities. Mother Nature has given us a mixed bag of weather but our Valley seems to find the silver lining in these events. Our great group of planners has been hard at work. We have something for everyone who enjoys being in the out of doors as well as many social events. They are all described in this newsletter. Remember, if there is something you particularly enjoy and would like to lead a group, you need only get in touch with one of our Board members to get the ball rolling. Feel free to contact me with any thoughts or ideas.
Thom

You Have Renewed Your Membership
Thank you for being a 2023 member of CVOA. You're one of over 315 members who have already renewed, so please join in our events and activities. There are never enough CVOA members. Encourage family, friends, acquaintances to consider joining CVOA, get involved and enjoy all the wonderful activities we support. If you know someone who is not a member but would enjoy getting to know other outdoor loving folks, encourage them to join. See you in the Valley!

Activities and Trip Leaders Needed
Calling All Members!
Some of the best things about CVOA are the fun outdoor events that are offered to members. These events could not happen without a dedicated group of Trip Leaders. But as with life, changes come over time and our trip leader team has diminished over the years. We are reaching out to find individuals who would make great trip leaders - whether you know it or not! If you love outdoor adventures and would like to share with others this is a great opportunity. Leaders are needed for trips from a few hours to several days. It could be a hike in the CV area, a ski trip out west or to Saddleback or a bike trip around Cape Breton - or anything else you can imagine.
An information session on the expectations and perks of being a trip leader will be held on January 21st at 3:00pm in the Snowbrook Community Room over the pool or via Zoom to learn more and hear experiences from some of our current trip leaders. Please email cvoa.secretary@gmail.com if you think you may attend or feel free to just show up! To join by Zoom click this link:

Yonder Knoll Hike
Saturday January 14, 2023
Show ‘N' Go Hike
Trip Leader: Jan Mildram
Meet at the Stratton Brook Hut Parking lot, just north of the Loaf Access Road. Head out at 1:05pm. Cleats and/or snowshoes are recommended, depending on the amount of snow. Poles are important for navigating any uneven ground. We travel 15 minutes on the Narrow Gauge Pathway, then about 30 minutes up, some of which is moderately steep, but not tricky related to footing. We see the incredible view for 15 minutes or so. It’s an outstanding panorama of the Crockers, the Loaf, Burnt Mountain, and the peaks of Bigelow. The trip down is about 30 minutes. Total time is no more than 2 hours, so we will be back around 3:00 or so. This is a Show ‘N Go event, so there is no signup required. We do this no matter the weather.
Friendly dogs are welcome.
Jan will be doing Yonder Knoll Hikes the 2nd Saturdays February 11th and March 11th...mark your calendars now!!

Hope you can make it!

Quebec 2023 Trip
Usually, great skiing is the headline for a ski trip. I’m getting excited about skiing in March at Stoneham, Mount Sainte Anne and Le Massif. But, I’m also getting excited to see Quebec City again – it’s been a while. As they say “Je me souviens”.
There are a few spots open. If you’re interested, read through the brochure (click on it) and send in a reservation form. If you have any questions, please contact trip leader Thom Johnston as soon as possible..207-852-3595

Neal Trask, CVOA and Range founder
Hello Range and CVOA Members,
The Range Committee would like to thank the friends and family of our founder, Neal Trask, for their generous donations to the Range. We will meet in the Spring to discuss the best use of the funds to support Neal's vision for the Range.
A friendly reminder to renew your membership for the 2023 season. Even if you've put your guns and bows to bed for the Winter, CVOA has lots of activities to play in the outdoors or socialize indoors. Come see all the things CVOA has to offer!
Winter season is here. Trap, 5 Stand, and Archery have been put to bed for the winter, but you can still shoot on the Pistol and Rifle Ranges. Also, the heated bathroom is available. Thank you all for a wonderful shooting season. And special thanks to our Range Committee, Seth Gilbert, David Hatch, Kathi & John Bennett, Alexi Godin, Tom Poulin, Bill O'Brien, and Thom Johnston.
Reminder that the gate code will remain the same throughout the Winter for those intrepid shooters!
