Reminder: Winter Weather Policy If the clinic is closing due to winter weather, a notification will be posted both on the home page of the website, and in the voicemail greeting. In addition, if you are scheduled that day for an appointment, we will contact you directly by phone or email. If you are unsure, please make sure to check your voicemail, call the clinic or check the website. If you need to cancel due to weather and the clinic has not been closed, you will not be charged for the late cancellation. However, we ask that you please do give us as much notice as possible. Otherwise, please be reminded that the cancellation policy is 24 hours before your appointment, or you will be charged $35 or one treatment off of your package, due at your next appointment. Light Therapy for Long Winter Days

Katie Oleksak Lic.Ac. Many of our patients describe struggles with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during this time of year. SAD is described as depression that occurs only during the Fall and/or Winter. Whether you are officially diagnosed with SAD or just experiencing some symptoms such as lowered energy or mood, Light Therapy may be a helpful option for you. What it involves is sitting in front of a Light Therapy Box for increments of time each day. These boxes are designed to supplement natural light from the outdoors, improving your mood and triggering your brain to recognize this light--during a time of year when darkness takes over most of our waking hours. For SAD, it is typically recommended to use a 10,000 lux light box, at a distance of 16-24 inches from your eyes, about 20-30 minutes a day. I love winter and try to embrace the change in season, staying in more and resting. However, it is still important for me to sustain energy and quality sleep. I just recently started getting up a little earlier each morning to dedicate time to using the Circadian Optics Lumos Light Therapy Lamp for about 20 minutes or so, and it seems to be improving my sleep and mood throughout the day.
