Point of Care Testing for Strep and Flu

Starting January 11th, we will be offering rapid Strep and Flu testing in the store. These tests will not be covered by insurance, they will be performed on a cash basis. The Strep test cost is $40 and the Flu test cost is $50. If the rapid test result is positive, we will be able to prescribe you an antibiotic or antiviral prescription following a collaborative agreement we have with a Physician. The prescription medication can be billed to your insurance. We will perform Strep tests for anyone 5 years and older, and Flu tests for anyone 13 years and older. However, if you are pregnant, or immunocompromised, or if you have a fever greater than 103, you will be ineligible for a rapid test and you must see your Physician or an Urgent Care doctor. You will only be eligible for a Flu test if your flu-like symptoms started less than 48 hours before you seek testing. By offering you the availability of these tests through our store, you will be able to save some time and money that you would have spent at Urgent Care. These tests provide an alternative care option for people who are otherwise healthy. If you have underlying health conditions, you will need to see your primary Physician for appropriate care and diagnosis of your illness. When you arrive at the store for one of these tests, you will be provided with a mask that we will ask you to wear while you are in the store to help prevent the spread of any germs to others, and you will also fill out a questionnaire about your symptoms to make sure you are eligible for the rapid point of care test.
Cough and Cold Season

Cough and Colds are in full swing for the year, and we have also seen an increase in the number of flu cases the last couple of weeks. So remember, you still need to be vigilant about cold and flu prevention. Keep washing your hands, or using hand sanitizer if you are unable to wash with soap and water. Use Lysol or some type of disinfecting wipe on surfaces around you to keep them germ-free. Cover your cough and avoid shaking hands with others during this season. Also, check your medicine cabinet at home to make sure you have a cough syrup, a decongestant, an antihistamine, acetaminophen or ibuprofen, Mucinex, cough drops and kleenex on hand. Once the cold or flu strikes, you will not feel like leaving the house, so try to be prepared. Hopefully you won't need to use the supplies you have gathered, but it is better to have them on hand than to struggle to get them when you are sick. Immune boosters are also a good plan to use during this season when it seems like everyone around you has "something". Our favorites are: Emergen-C, Viricid, Airborne, and the new Therazinc lozenges with zinc and elderberry. Elderberry is also very soothing for your throat.
Cold air--Dry skin!

Now that winter has officially arrived and we have been enduring a deep freeze these past few weeks--your skin is probably screaming for moisture relief! All of the hand washing and sanitizing does not help the dryness issue and if you wash your hands frequently, you may want to give the product-- Gloves in a Bottle Shielding Lotion-- a try. We carry it in a 3.4 ounce tube and also a 2 ounce bottle that is convenient to carry in your purse, backpack or briefcase. This lotion enhances your skin's ability to retain natural oils and moisture, and helps to protect you against irritants in hand sanitizers, soaps and frequent hand washing's. This lotion is non-greasy, absorbs very quickly, and lasts through multiple hand washing's. It is a great lotion to use during the day, especially while at work. When at home, or at night, you may wish to apply a heavier lotion or cream as a moisturizer.   Favorite lotions/creams of our pharmacy staff are: No-Crack cream (available in 3 types--day use, multi-use and night-use, as well as scented and unscented), Vanicream, Cerave, Lubriderm, Working Hands and Eucerin.  Most of these options are scent-free and hypoallergenic, so they won't irritate sensitive skin.
Warm Thoughts!

While it may be cold outside, we have many items in the store to keep you warm! Snoozies from our gift department will keep your feet toasty warm during these cold months. We still have fashionable mittens, hats and scarves in our gift department too! Hand and foot warmers are in stock and located by each cash register--they are great to add extra warmth to boots, mittens or coat pockets so you can enjoy outdoor (or indoor) activities in the winter. We have Hot Chocolate in our center aisle to warm you up after those outdoor activities!
Now Hiring

If you, or someone you know is looking for a part-time job--we may be able to help! We are looking to hire part-time evening and weekend Sales Associates (about 15-20 hours per week). It is a great after school job for a teenager, but you don't need to be a teenager to work here--you just need to be available a few nights a week and also have availability to work some weekend hours! We are interested in teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in between!
We are also looking for a part-time Pharmacy Technician.  Some experience is helpful, and you will need to be registered with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
Stop by the Pharmacy counter to pick up an Employment application for yourself or someone you know!
