New Year greetings to you!
We hope you had a relaxing and festive holiday break. We look forward to seeing all of our students back for three more weeks of classes in our fall term. Fall term continues until Sunday, January 22nd and then make up week is January 23rd - 29th. Be sure to
register for spring term group classes and private lessons soon. Returning private lesson students, you have priority before January 9th in reserving your current lesson slot(s), so please contact
Lorin as soon as possible. We are offering
one new class this term, so check out details in the article, below.
On Saturday February 25th, CIM will co-host Eigse CIM, A Gaela Event - our annual fundraising dinner, concert, and silent auction - with honorary chair Thomas Dillon Redshaw, Professor Emeritus of University of St. Thomas. This semi-formal evening event includes two ticket options for attendees: come early to share a meal provided by Cara Irish Pubs, or join us later in the evening for the silent auction and concert, featuring the stellar traditional Irish music of the CIM Instructors who boast recording, award winning, and world touring artists among their number. We invite you to dress up in your finest, invite your friends, and join us for a fantastic evening of delicious food, live traditional Irish music and an enticing item-filled silent auction.
So, once again all of us at CIM wish you a Happy New Year! We look forward to a great year ahead filled with new tunes, songs, and community events.

TG4 Gradam Ceoil Award Winners Announced
|
|
Good friend of the Twin Cities traditional Irish music scene, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, was just named Traditional Musician of the Year at the 2017 TG4 Gradam Ceoil Awards.
Mairéad is a world-renowned Irish singer and fiddler and is a founding member of Altan with CIM Instructor, Daithi Sproule. Mairéad shared her love of music with the Irish Times:
"I think you just have to be true to yourself. Overnight success is not what it's about. It's not about expecting anything actually. It's just about playing your music from your heart, and that can never die. I think integrity is very important. That you're not looking for recognition - which I'm delighted to get - but if I didn't get this Gradam Ceoil, I'd still be playing for the rest of my life, even if no one was listening to me. I get great satisfaction, great solace and great joy out of music. There's a therapy for anybody in it."
Also honored was past MIM artist Rita Gallagher for Traditional Singing.
