“Plan your work for today and every day, then work your plan.” – Margaret Thatcher
Each year we gather as a staff months ahead of the coming year and plan out our event schedule. Many factors come into play when scheduling multiple events. First, we analyze how the event did the previous year and even go back several years. We look through collected surveys, feedback from sponsors, volunteers and staff and we look at what needs to be changed.
Second, we look at what was our competition on that date? For example, is there another boxing event in our area on the same weekend? Is there a large event that our demographic will be attending instead of our event?
Third, we look at facility availability. With limited facilities we don’t always get our first choice on dates. We have learned to be flexible and make adjustments as needed.
Fourth, we determine if we need to move the date. We try not to move dates because it helps keep our event followers and the date has an impact on the branding of the event. But sometimes the event needs a change in date or venue.
We also look at adding new events and retiring other events. For example, we have added the Frogman Challenge & 5k event to our calendar. This event includes a 5k trail run, 3D Bowhunting Challenge and a dinner. It is
an event that had a great following when it started in 2016
and we look forward to reviving it on June 1st.
