Hello TCD members,

As I prepared for this month’s E-news, it became clear to me that of all the communication we would do this year, this is the most important. This E-News contains several articles with important information regarding the future of TCD and the exciting introduction of “PCD”, Pickleball Competitors of Dallas.

The incredible growth of TCD has increased the complexity of the organization and dynamic changes need to happen to support the future. A special committee was formed with the Past Presiding Director as the chair and was comprised of current and former Board members.

Based on the committee’s recommendations the Board approved the revision of the TCD Bylaws to reflect changes to term limits. These changes will support the continuity and stability of the TCD Board going into the future.

Another amazing announcement as mentioned, is the division of “TCD” Pickleball and becoming “PCD” Pickleball. With the explosion of interest, and again, huge growth, TCD felt this is the perfect time for pickleball to venture out on its own, which was always the plan.

The Bylaws have been modified to reflect the division, which will be effective January 2025, except for the mandate of having two (2) representatives from pickleball to serve on the Nominating Committee. That revision will take place immediately as there will not be a need for pickleball representatives.

Players, please communicate with your team from last spring regarding your availability/plans for the fall. The last day to delete a player from a roster is July 23rd .

FALL 2020…TCD took a chance on a new game exploding in popularity, not only in the Metroplex but nationally, to pilot a Ladies Doubles League under the TCD umbrella and named it TCDPickleball. We developed new Rules, scoring system, match format, various forms, and new Bylaws, and played with paddles, pickleballs, courts and nets, all different from what we were used to playing tennis. TCDPickleball became the first “traveling league” nation-wide to be

formatted. That first season TCDPickleball registered 23 teams and 316 players.

FOUR YEARS LATER with the addition of a Mixed Doubles League and a Ladies Summer Indoor League pilot, we have experienced a tremendous growth with approximately 2,500 players and 164 teams. Our future goals include introducing a Men’s Doubles League and a Ladies Doubles Senior League. With this anticipated growth the TCD Board of Directors agreed, with the backing of Cindy Brinker Simmons, President of MCB, to separate TCDPickleball from TCD to become its own entity with its own Board of Directors. This new entity will become Pickleball Competitors of Dallas (PCD) effective 2025.

This is an exciting new adventure with a lot yet to do before the end of the year but we anticipate a smooth transition. The changes will be subtle but definitely more efficient for the pickleball program overall. It’s a wonderful opportunity to grow the sport in the Metroplex and additionally give our membership what they are asking for...more pickleball!

TCD will introduce new Bylaws in this E-News. Please take the time to read through them as they will be voted on in August. New PCD Bylaws will be introduced later this fall.

Last month in the newsletter I shared with you the Tennis Rule changes that have been made. Today I am sharing with you the Pickleball Rule change.

Below please find the change to Pickleball Rule IV.B.2 (Remove “and/or location”)

After Home match times have been posted, any TIME and/or LOCATION changes must be agreed upon by BOTH captains and reported to the Flight Coordinator.

As a reminder, it is registration time. Please verify with all your players that they do indeed intend to return to your team. Additionally, please confirm all their personal information before completing your roster.

Happy Summer TCD Members!

As you’ve already read, we have been BUSY while off court. We are excited to roll out some very exciting changes that will enhance our members’ experience by adding continuity to the organization.

The Board of Directors is charged with the review and updating of its Bylaws annually. The 2024 Board approved the following changes to the governing Bylaws of the organization and will be presenting these to the General Membership for approval at our August 22nd General Membership Meeting.

Our purpose is to AMEND the sections of the TCD Bylaws that pertain to the following matters:

• The division of “TCD” Pickleball to Pickleball Competitors of Dallas, "PCD”. PCD will remain under the MCB Organization with its own governing Board of Directors effective January 1, 2025.

• A change in term limits from one (1) fiscal year to two (2) fiscal years with the exception of the Past Presiding Director which will remain a one (1) year term.

• The addition of a Purchasing Task Force Chair. The Task Force Chair will not sit on the Board, but report to the Board.

PROPOSED BYLAW AMENDMENTS

PLEASE take the time to carefully read these proposed changes. If you have ANY questions, please email me for further clarification. These proposed changes will be voted on at our General Membership Meeting on August 22, 2024. We hope to see you there!

Article XI provides for the amendment of our Bylaws as follows: “These Bylaws can be amended at any regular General Membership meeting of TCD by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of those members present and voting, provided such proposed amendments have been published and/or electronically distributed to all members at least two (2) weeks prior to the meeting.” Therefore, this official notification and publication of the proposed amendments as of July 16, 2024, meets/exceeds the two week requirement noted in Article XI.

FALL 2024

REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

Registration for the Fall 2024 season is underway and will close on Tuesday, July 30th. The last day to remove a player from a registered roster will be July 23rd.

*** NEW THIS FALL ***

TCD will require dates of birth for ALL returning and new players.

• If you are a returning Spring 2024 team, the captain or co-captain must log in to the website with her/his admin password and roster the team. If there is a new captain and/or co-captain, use the Captain Changeup function on your Admin page to make those changes. The new captain(s) can then set up their own passwords to log in and roster the team.
• If you are forming a new Pickleball team, please contact the TCD

REGISTRATION: Opens Monday, August 12^th at 9:00 am.

To register, go to Ladies TCD page/Events/Ladies Tournament. Only one person per doubles partnership needs to register. Registration closes August 17th or whenever capacity is reached.

All tournament players must be registered on a Fall TCD TENNIS team (this includes Ladies, Love-50, Love-60 or Mixed tennis). Registration will open after Fall placement is complete, so register in the flight your team has been assigned for the Fall. A link to register will be available on Monday, August 12 at 9:00 am. Payment will be made through PayPal.

TOURNAMENT FEE: $25/person ($50 per team)

Entry fees are NON-REFUNDABLE for ANY reason, (i.e., weather, injuries, etc.), so if you need a sub, ask a teammate! ANY changes from the original registration MUST be emailed to the Tournaments Task Force Chair for approval.

Flights fill quickly so grab a partner and be ready to register on MONDAY, AUGUST 12 at 9:00 am. Email me with any questions.
