SUMMER SPEAKER SERIES: THE POWER OF NAMING

Across generations and geographies, naming something was seen as a powerful act. Sometimes that was literally giving someone a name. Other times it was naming to claim or confront. As James Baldwin wrote: Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

The Shared Ministry Team is now the Welcome Team and we need YOU! It takes a whole team of JUCers to make our Sunday Worship work. All members are encouraged to volunteer throughout the church year and it is a very fun and rewarding way to give back to the community we all love.

Welcome Team: Belonging Boot Camp

  • Join the Welcome Team! Whether new to Sunday volunteering or a long-time volunteer, these classes are for you! Through 4 in-person or online sessions, you'll learn how to foster a sense of belonging in our community, develop strategies for communication, and understand the importance of inclusion at JUC. You'll earn a piece of the Welcome Team pin by completing a session, and the entire program will complete the full pin set. Summer sessions run June 23-August 7. Sign Up Link

Support The Rising's Mission Arvada Homeless Ministry

  • The Rising Church in Old Town Arvada provides meals and other resources to people experiencing homelessness at their Mission Arvada Day Shelter. JUC supports their efforts by preparing meals in our JUC kitchen and serving them weekly.   • CUUPS: Earth Honoring Traditions 101  // 6 - 7:30 pm // Join us as we reflect on the Earth Honoring Traditions around the world. We will be learning about different traditions from Kemetism to Wiccan and more! Every meeting will be different and learning about our siblings in paganism.   • Climate Change Conversations // 9 am // Sundays through August 25 // patio // We live in a warming world. At one time it seemed a remote concern, but now we learn daily of unwanted outcomes. What are your concerns about our warming world? Bring your questions and ideas for a discussion moderated by Phil Nelson. Phil will lead off each session with a story about a prominent climate actor—a scientist, a journalist, a politician.


  • Spiritual Practice Group: Mindfulness Meditation // 9:15 am in person (M3/4) AND 5 - 6:15 pm online // The Mindfulness Meditation group is meeting every Sunday to meditate together.   • Summer of Invitation: Sundae Sunday! // 11 am // patio // Cool off after church with an ice cream party on the patio. Catch up with other JUCers while enjoying a delicious cold treat. 

Monday, July 8

  • Queer Identity Group // 6 - 7:30 pm // M1/2 // We welcome any LGBTIQ/Queer Adults to join us as we establish the new JUC Queer Identity Group. Ages 18 and up. Help us consider what's needed within the congregation and how we can impact the larger community. How can this wealth of LGBTIQ history and resilience within JUC be celebrated and passed onto future generations? We hope this group can serve as a touchstone for those that need it.   • Summer Fun Camp! // 9 am - 3 pm // There are a few spots left to sign up! Join other JUC kids for a week of summer fun, UU style! Camp is open to 6-12 year olds. The cost is $100/camper for members, $150/camper for non-members. After care will be available from 3-5 p.m. for an additional fee. We will have a few jr. counselor and counselor spots for 13 year olds and up. Registration Link

  • WOMBATS Dads Group // 5:30 pm // The WOMBATS are here to create a community of people who identify as dads to connect authentically. Meetings consist of time to connect socially, share a meal, and a formal program based on listening and reflection. Contact: Erik Greensfelder

  • Summer of Invitation: Campfire Singalong and Potluck // 6:30 - 8:30 pm // Join us for our 2nd annual Campfire Potluck Singalong - an evening of summer fun, food, singing and s'mores right on our JUC patio.   • Summer of Invitation YOUTH Field Trip: Elitch Gardens // 9 am - 5 pm // JUC Middle and High School Youth are invited for a day of fun at Elitch Gardens! We will meet at the JUC parking lot at 9 am, caravan to the park, and head back to JUC around 4:30 pm. Please plan on picking up your child at 5 pm at JUC. Sign Up Link
