SUMMER SPEAKER SERIES: THE POWER OF NAMING

Across generations and geographies, naming something was seen as a powerful act. Sometimes that was literally giving someone a name. Other times it was naming to claim or confront. As James Baldwin wrote: "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

The Shared Ministry Team is now the Welcome Team and we need YOU! It takes a whole team of JUCers to make our Sunday Worship work. All members are encouraged to volunteer throughout the church year and it is a very fun and rewarding way to give back to the community we all love.

Our Faith Exploration programming for the 2024-25 church year kicks off Sunday, August 18. Please register your child(ren) today!

We’re calling on all willing hands for our upcoming All-Church Picnic! We need volunteers to help run games, facilitate crafts, and assist with setup and cleanup. Your support is vital to making this event a success, and let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be quite the same without you! The Church Blood Drive is Coming Soon!

Give blood right at JUC! For an appointment, please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit RedCrossBlood.org and use sponsor code: JUC. If you have never given blood or are nervous, call Carol at the church office (303-279-5282). She gave blood every two months throughout the pandemic and beyond (partly for the good snacks). She will be here to hold your hand if you need it!

Support The Rising's Mission Arvada Homeless Ministry

The Rising Church in Old Town Arvada provides meals and other resources to people experiencing homelessness at their Mission Arvada Day Shelter. JUC supports their efforts by preparing meals in our JUC kitchen and serving them weekly. Please consider joining a cook team or signing up to serve meals.   • Faith Exploration Teacher Training // 6 - 8 pm // chapel // We will connect as a community of teachers as we learn about updates to our safety policies, brainstorm best approaches for teaching diverse learners and practice incorporating anti-oppression work into all that we do. Attendance at one of the two (alternate date August 11) trainings is required for all 2024-25 Faith Exploration teachers. Sign Up Link

  • Yoga As You Are: A Spiritual Practice // 2 - 3 pm // 2nd, 4th, & 5th Thursdays // chapel // This class is open to people of all abilities and levels of experience. There will be opportunities for people who aren’t able to get on and off the floor. Bring a yoga mat or a beach towel, plus any yoga props you already own. Contact: Martha Eastman

  • Climate Change Conversations // 9 am // Sundays through August 18 // patio // We live in a warming world. At one time it seemed a remote concern, but now we learn daily of unwanted outcomes. What are your concerns about our warming world? Bring your questions and ideas for a discussion moderated by Phil Nelson. Phil will lead off each session with a story about a prominent climate actor—a scientist, a journalist, a politician.


  • Spiritual Practice Group: Mindfulness Meditation // 9:15 am in person (M3/4) AND 5 - 6:15 pm online // The Mindfulness Meditation group is meeting every Sunday to meditate together.   • Abundant Harvest Table // 11 am // south commons // Nourish your body after worship each Sunday with healthy, delicious food lovingly prepared by fellow JUCers.   • Queer Connections Identity Group // 6 pm // Do you identify as LGBTQIA+? Come connect with the JUC Queer Adult community and bring snacks to share. This will be an informal social meetup to make connections as queer folks. We will talk briefly about how the community moves forward and what activities sound appealing to all.

  • Auction Event: 26th Annual Great American Beerfest // 2 - 6 pm // Join us once again for a great not-to-be-missed party for beer aficionados (and those who are merely beer-curious!). Here's how it works: You bring three bottles (or the equivalent) of your favorite craft beer and everybody tastes all the beers! Art will provide several of his famous homebrews and we'll serve substantial munchies to go along with the beer. All funds collected go to support the good work of JUC. Sign Up Link

Tanja earned a PhD at Mines and is now Chief Innovation Officer at Metro Water Recovery. Stay for food, drinks, ice cream, and conversations after the Q&A!

  • Family Promise Host Week // Due to your support, JUC has been a part of providing shelter to over 114 people so far this year. Many of whom are in their own homes now! Once again, families experiencing homelessness will be housed on our campus this September. Please join our loving community in welcoming them to our church by volunteering to drive the families, serve dinner, or host. Children are encouraged to participate in many of these activities. Family Promise is an all church commitment as it takes 90 volunteers. We have detailed instructions for everyone who signs up and support from the JUC core volunteers and the FP staff. Sign Up Link
