Guatemala Bake Sale

Sun, Feb 13

It's time for our annual Guatemala Bake Sale. Every year we raise funds to build homes and distribute wheelchairs in Guatemala. While we can't send a team to Guatemala this spring, we will send funds to our in-country partner, Bethel Ministries, for the building of 1 house and distribution of 50 wheelchairs.

Join us this Sunday, Feb 13, at our morning Worship Gathering with an appetite and readiness to bid on delicious home-baked items. If you're the winning bid, you'll leave with yummy goodies and having supported families in Guatemala.

If you are unable to attend on Feb 13th but would still like to give toward this project, please do so via any of our regular giving channels with a note saying that your donation is for Guatemala 2022.

Thank you from the Missions Team!

Generous Living - Guatemala

by Curtis Cottrell

Imagine this. You live in a family where your father works 12-16 hrs a day in the heat of the cane fields and barely brings home enough money to purchase corn and dried beans to feed your family. Your house has a dirt floor. Your mother cooks over an open fire inside your home. Cooking smoke covers everything and degrades your mom’s eyesight. Sometimes you have electricity for light.

During your big brother’s home birth your aunt did her best, but unknown to her, there were umbilical cord problems and your brother was deprived of oxygen to his brain. Now at 5 years old his muscles don’t work right and he can’t walk on his own. Because of his spastic movements and strange voice your friends and neighbours think your family is cursed. Why else would this have happened? You want to help him. You want to help your family. But you can’t. You won’t ever have enough money to build a safe home. You won’t ever have enough money to buy the wheelchair your brother needs now and the one he’ll need later as he grows. You’re stuck. You need help. You pray for help. There is silence. There is a worldwide pandemic and no one is helping.

Now imagine you are the answer to this prayer. Together we are going to supply 50 families with wheelchairs. And for at least one family, a house with a concrete floor, durable metal structure, a locking door and window, beds and a high efficiency wood cooking stove.

Our partners in Guatemala are standing by to deliver hope and dignity, along with God’s life giving Gospel. Let’s not delay. You can donate any amount towards the following goals:

  • Sponsoring 50 wheelchairs: $230 each
  • Sponsoring 1 home: $4900

This We Believe: A Confession of Faith

Article 3 - Creation & Humanity

"Original Goodness"

Genesis 1-3

We are teaching through 18 Articles in our Mennonite Brethren denomination's Confession of Faith. This Sunday, Pastor Brad's focus is on Creation and Humanity. A basic need in life is to know where we are from, why we are here, and where we are going. Article 3 of our Confession of Faith helps shape our understanding of these questions, including insights on the relationship between God and the created universe, as well as addressing the origins of humanity, our present condition and ultimate destiny.
