JOINT DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD ON PROPOSED PLANS FOR NEW I-64 INTERCHANGE AT DENBIGH BOULEVARD IN NEWPORT NEWS   

Public invited to learn about proposed plans on two projects to construct a new diamond interchange at Denbigh Boulevard designed to improve safety, reduce congestion and expand access to local area  

NEWPORT NEWS — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a combined in-person design public hearing on Tuesday, June 25, to share information and receive feedback on the two projects’ proposed plans to construct a new diamond interchange on Interstate 64 (I-64) at Denbigh Boulevard designed to improve safety, reduce congestion and expand access to the local area.    

 

Collectively the two proposed projects referred to as “Phase 1” and “Phase 2” will provide a new I-64 interchange between Fort Eustis Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue in Newport News. The “Phase 1” project includes the construction of the I-64 west on-and off-ramps at Denbigh Boulevard, as well as improvements to the Denbigh Boulevard intersections at Warwick Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue. “Phase 2” involves the construction of the I-64 east on-and off-ramps and the widening of the bridge on Denbigh Boulevard over I-64 and the CSX railroad tracks to accommodate new ramp turn lanes.

The purpose of the meeting is to give the public an opportunity to review the project exhibits on display, meet with VDOT representatives to ask questions and obtain project information, and provide input. This meeting will be an open house-style format with no formal presentation. Media are invited to attend. 

 

The public may provide oral and written comments regarding the proposed projects at the hearing or submit them by July 5, 2024, to Adam Krakow, Virginia Department of Transportation, 7511 Burbage Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434, or via email to Adam.Krakow@VDOT.Virginia.gov.
