Sheila Pierce Appointed to EDPNC!!

Executive Director of Jacksonville Onslow Economic Development, Sheila Pierce, has been appointed to the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.

 Onslow School Superintendent invited to White House Conference 

  
Rick Stout is one of three North Carolina superintendents and more than 100 nationwide who were selected by the U.S. Department of Education to attend a White House conference on digital learning.
  
The conference is an extension of the Connected Initiative announced by the president in 2013 to connect 99 percent of students to high speed Internet within five years and empower teachers with technology for the classroom.

Innovation Center (iCenter)

The North Carolina Innovation Center (iCenter), a working laboratory in Raleigh, N.C., where users can test new hardware and software before the state commits to purchasing them.

 

So far, the state has tested more than $6 million worth of technology for free, and the iCenter has saved the state about $1.4 million a year in storage costs and $7 million in renegotiated contracts, according to a news release a year after the opening (http://www.governor.state.nc.us/newsroom/press-releases/20141028/north-carolina-lead-national-innovation-community).

 AVID National Demonstration


  Three years ago Trexler Middle School was validated as one of 120 Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID) National Demonstration schools by AVID Center because it exemplified a school-wide approach to AVID. An AVID Center Team Recently Visited Trexler Middle School and revalidated the school to retain status as an AVID National demonstration.
 
The AVID program helps underachieving students to improve their studies to prepare them for rigorous upper-level courses and for college.

 EDPNC Names CEO

  
Christopher Chung, an economic development veteran who launched Missouri`s award-winning business development corporation, has been named CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC), effective Jan. 12. Interim CEO Richard Lindenmuth, who guided the North Carolina Partnership though its start up this fall, will continue to serve as a consultant for special projects.
