Our new digital library ​has over 1,800 titles in ​broad genres such as manga, literature, Japanese language, art, history, culture, society, cooking & food, etc. They are all free to read! ​We hope everyone can browse our digital library and find a book to read.

To apply, please register by going to the Application form and clicking on “Click Here to Complete the Digital Library Signup Survey” at the bottom of the page. We will send out confirmation emails from The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It ​will include your Library Card number and Pin code to access. After you receive it, you will be ready to read digital books on both OverDrive webpage and their e-reader app: Libby!

Garden of Resonance: The Art of Jun Kaneko

October 1, 2022– February 20, 2023

Portland Japanese Garden (Portland, OR)

Garden of Resonance will showcase works spanning internationally acclaimed artist Jun Kaneko’s career ranging from large, outdoor installations to his earlier paintings and other works on paper. Juxtaposed alongside the stunning foliage of the Pacific Northwest, creating a backdrop of constantly changing color and texture, this exhibition will offer a transformative experience to visitors of all types, while bringing out the best of what makes this Japanese garden truly special. This event is supported through the Japan Foundation Salary Assistance Grant.

KIMONO: A Tradition of Sustainable Fashion

October 9– October 29

OPERA America (New York NY)

JPA Kimono Exhibition & Cultural Exchange Program give a spotlight on a very eco-friendly side of Japanese Kimono Culture. The program will introduce the wisdom within Japanese kimono culture including some of the rare traditional craftsmanship techniques. Additionally, the relationship between kimono and Japanese traditional dance will be shown and explained with actual live performance sessions. This event is supported through the JFNY Grant for Arts and Culture.
