Newsletter Introduction: May 2024
Don’t mind me, I’m just enjoying this silly photo of my daughter's cat Patty celebrating her quinceanera. There’s a lot of talk about the real estate market, but the truth is I’m busier than ever right now. I’m going to keep this introduction short, because I’m up against a deadline and I have a Friday evening open house at a new listing—if that doesn’t make me feel like tomorrow is a Sunday, nothing will. I’ve got several fun stories in this issue. I hope you enjoy, and as always, I look forward to your feedback. READ MORE

Here’s something you may not know: The state of Massachusetts has the lowest rate of dog ownership in the entire United States. Only 22% of households in Massachusetts have a dog, while for the country as a whole 66% of households have a dog. READ MORE

Every once in a while, I come across a product that’s perfect for my home and lifestyle. I was at an upcoming potential listing, and I was distracted by the most fascinating flooring. If you are any kind of minimalist, you’ll disagree. But if you are anything like me, and you like colors and patterns and textures, you will love FLOR.com. READ MORE

Sometimes it looks like we have a little bit of Beverly Hillbillies going on at our house. Worse, the pile above has now become almost invisible to me. My birthday is coming up, and I had to think about what I might want, and just like last year I wanted a dumpster. Mainly because it hit me what a pretty property, but what the heck is with that dead Christmas tree, abandoned basketball hoop, broken plastic totes, metal pile, rock pile and dirt pile, broken wheelbarrow, etc. What is WRONG with these people? Wait, that’s us. READ MORE
Rattle Root Farm, our next door neighbor CSA in Princeton, is thriving and has a lot of new things going on. Joey, Hannah and Peter look relaxed and happy to be back. They are growing grape vines so they can start their own “vineyard” (two rows of grape vines), and they have inoculated tree limbs/small branches to grow mushrooms. Not knowing what inoculating cut down limbs off trees meant, I asked them. READ MORE
This state of the market article is different, because it’s more specific to my recent experiences, and looks at how the market has been affected by “the lawsuit”, which, among other things, prohibits Real Estate Agents from using the MLS (multiple listing service) to advertise how much a buyer agent will earn for helping a client buy a house. I'm not sure if this counts as a Product Review, but what a score! I thought it was too good to be true, but with a little documentation and a check for $10, Jay was able to get a Lifetime Parking Pass available to Massachusetts residents age 62 and older. This pass allows the holder to free parking for one passenger vehicle, occupied by the passholder (whether driver or passenger), at any DCR facility that charges a parking pass fee. The senior parking pass is not valid for parking at a few specific DCR locations, but for $10, it's a great lifetime deal, where the regular rate for a single annual season pass is $60. I love exploring new technology to keep raising the bar on how I present my listings! I'm probably more excited than I should be that I've made this flip book with all the details of the listing, photos and EVEN VIDEO!

In April, the Ash-West Business Community (ABC) held its first in-person meet-up of small business owners. It was held at Jen Shenk’s Keller Williams Real Estate office after hours (thanks, Jen) and was an evening of great conversation and brainstorming! Thanks to those who attended - we came away with some great plans and ideas for the future.

I've had to resist going to yard sales as it's been determined that we have a lot of stuff and I'd be better off HAVING a yard sale than GOING TO a yard sale. Problem for me is that I get bored easily and any time I've had a yard sale, I find that it's SO MUCH WORK, for SUCH SHORT MONEY...and sometimes I think we end up with just as much, if not more, than we started with. However, if I see a yard sale, I must stop--just in case there's something I need. *Like this cute red bench I scored at a yard sale in the center of Westminster a decade or so ago. READ MORE

Observations on Grocery Shopping
What do Market Basket (an 88 store chain of supermarkets across New England, with 25,000 employees) and Vincent’s Country Store in Westminster, with one location and at most 10 employees, have in common? More than you’d expect. When we do our big shopping trips, we head for Market Basket in Athol. Not only are the prices always lower than anywhere else, but the shelves are always fully stocked and there’s often managers walking around, happy to help if you can’t find something. My general feeling about the store is that it’s almost run like the military. No one is goofing off, managers are always around making sure everything is in order, plus controlling the flow of people through the registers. READ MORE
THINKING OF SELLING A CONDO AT THE MEADOWS AT WEST HILL IN WESTMINSTER?
|
I recently sold 21B West Hill Drive in Westminster, The Meadows At West Hill condominiums. We were able to provide significant documentation to potential buyers related to past issues that have been resolved in the development. If you're thinking of selling, and have been waiting, contact me if your time is now!
I’ve hesitated to have one of those valuation tools on my website, because I want people to have actually relevant data. If you click the button below, I promise that 1) I will personally do the public records research on your property, 2) All communication we have will be completely confidential, 3) I will not hassle you to sell your property, and 4) I will not put you on any kind of prospect list. I simply want to provide you with information, and of course I hope that if you ever decide to sell, you’ll reach out to me. It’ll take me a little while longer to send you this information, but my research will be local, legitimate and relevant to the current market in your area.
