Tongass Forest Plan Revision | |
|
The US Forest Service has announced the beginning of the land management plan revision process for the Tongass National Forest. This process will result in a revised Land Management Plan that will guide resource management activities on the forest for approximately 15 years.
The Forest Service is inviting interested individuals and organizations to participate in the plan revision process by signing up for the revision mailing list. The assessment phase of the process will compile information about ecological, social, and economic conditions and trends in the planning area. This information will help identify the need for changes to the existing plan and inform the revision of the Plan.
The Forest Service is encouraging government agencies, Tribes, Alaska Native Corporations, non-governmental parties, and the general public to share information about conditions and trends on the Tongass National Forest. The Forest Service will utilize the engagement efforts and relationships developed as part of the Southeast Alaska Sustainability Strategy to ensure a broad range of local voices contribute to the assessment and planning process.
The Forest Service has already conducted community meetings, webinars, and office hours as part of the assessment process. The draft assessment will be available for public review and comment in early 2025, and the final assessment will inform the plan revision for the Tongass National Forest. The Forest Service may then proceed with the preparation of a revised Land Management Plan.
