Dear Maharat Rori,
Today we commemorate Shloshim, thirty days of mourning since the unfathomable attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7.
During this time, Jews and supporters of Israel all around the world have shared in grief, horror, and outrage while committing to unity and solidarity with Israel and her right to defend herself.
Here at JCRC, we’ve mobilized our community through a number of initiatives, community building opportunities, and educational programs. As always, we’ve found strength through our bonds with other Jewish organizations as well as our interfaith partners.
Here are just a few examples of what our JCRC has been working on in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war:
-
Organized a resource page on our website for important and fact-checked information from credible sources;
- Connected with our Student to Student (a program of the Newmark Institute) partner schools and prepared educators with facts, talking points, and guidance for speaking with their students about Israel and Gaza;
-
Continued going into schools and sharing about Israel through Student to Student presentations;
-
Hosted Israel-focused events including the inaugural session of HaKol Koreh: Everything Happening in Israel;
- Hosted David Makovsky for a program on 'The US, Israel, the Arab World and the Gaza Crisis: Convergences and Divergences;'
- Co-sponsored Gil Hoffman for 'Israel Under Fire: An Insider's Look;'
-
Compiled messages of support from local partners and community leaders and shared them on social media;
-
Communicated with local officials to call out harmful rhetoric and misinformation including an independent and joint community letter to Representative Cori Bush;
- Kept our subscribers informed by composing Israel Updates with up-to-date details on the war, calls to action, and opportunities to come together;
And there is still more happening every day! This week we have joined with others to co-sponsor a gathering at Congregation B’nai Amoona tomorrow evening, Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 pm to recite memorial prayers for those who have died, reading the names of all those still held captive, and praying for their safe release.
A national rally in support of Israel will take place in Washington DC on November 14 to show solidarity and demand the release of the 240+ hostages still held captive by Hamas. We look forward to a strong St. Louis presence and and unwavering support for Israel.
Stay strong,
|
