For many JBHS graduates, life sometimes comes around full circle as you rediscover a passion you had all those years ago while in high school. This is true for Taryn Scali Coakley, a 2001 graduate of JBHS.

While at Barlow, Taryn played volleyball and ran track all four years. During her senior year at Barlow, Taryn was the volleyball team captain. She was also the Student Council President her senior year. An excellent student and athlete, Taryn enjoyed her time at Barlow and felt well-prepared for college.

After graduation, Taryn headed to Northeastern University in Boston. While there, she majored in Communication Studies. As Taryn shared, both during and after college, throughout her career, she has been fortunate to support many well-known brands in marketing, branding, and communication roles.- Starbucks, Redbox, Kaiser Permanente, and more.

In 2008, Taryn met her now husband, an active duty Air Force Officer. Like many military families, they have traveled the world, living in many different places.By far their greatest adventure was welcoming a son in 2017.

As Taryn reports, when you are an Air Force spouse and mother, finding opportunities to align with career objectives can be extremely challenging. You are often moving as well as maintaining your role as the primary parent.

Taryn always had a passion for writing. When her work hours were minimized as a contractor at the end of 2022, Taryn decided to use her unexpected time and skills to write an Air Force children's book.

Apparently, Air Force children understand what their mother or father's squadron does, but have little knowledge of other areas within the Air Force.

In 2021, when Taryn and her family were based in Germany, they had to live on a base on a square that had fourteen other homes and families. Their four year old son soon became curious about the other squadrons and what they were responsible for. That was the seed that gave Taryn the idea to write, Sweet Dreams, Air Force. This is a

book that teaches children, as well as many adults, the roles that various squadrons play, ultimately showcasing how working as a team results in a successful mission.

Taryn hopes that the fun poems and bright illustrations bring joy to children while also broadening their understanding of our amazing AIR FORCE-all because of her sweet dreaming cover star.
