2023 Members’ Show Concluded January 21 at ArtCentre of Plano

After an almost two-month run, the annual PAA Members’ Show wrapped up on January 21. Participating artists picked up their artwork on January 23.  The show was an outstanding success. It was well attended and received many good reviews by visitors for its quality, variety and creativity.

Forty-seven pieces made up the show. Awards judging was conducted by noted Plano artist and community art leader, Courtney Hitt.

On December 11, the Awards Reception was combined with our annual Holiday Party at the ArtCentre of Plano. Courtney spoke to the attendees and acknowledged the basis of her awards selection of each winner.

On January 10, the ArtCentre hosted a “Lunch and Learn” event where top winners in each category discussed the concepts and inspiration behind their winning pieces. The presenters were David McKinney (Photography), Kyoko Park (Painting) and Christine Miller (Fiber and Sculpture).

Pop-Up Exhibit Open for PAA Members During Plano Arts Week

The City of Plano is officially declaring April 10 through April 16 “Plano Arts Week.” That means that all of the arts organizations will be conducting special events that will showcase the presence and importance of the arts in the Plano community. The Collaborative Arts of Plano (CAP) will be leading the effort and its city-wide promotion. PAA is a founding member of CAP.

As part of Plano Arts Week, PAA is planning a pop-up art show on Saturday, April 15 from 11:00 till 5:00. Similar to a previous event, we will stage an outdoor exhibit on the parking lot across from the DART station in the Arts District in Downtown Plano.

Costs for each artist will be $50 as partial payment for a canopy tent. PAA will subsidize the cost beyond that amount. If you have your own tent, you can provide it instead. Canopy/tents will be delivered to the site, but artists will be responsible for setting up and taking down their tents. Artist applications will be accepted on a first-come basis. Details and timing will be provided soon.

It is important for us to know how many members are interested in participating. This event will be staged only if there is sufficient interest in participation. We are not yet accepting reservations, just polling the membership to gage interest.

January Members' Meeting and Art Share Tuesday Evening, January 31, at 7:00

Tuesday, January 31, our monthly members' meeting will feature an exciting Art Share hosted by John Van Ness. This is always an illuminating opportunity to share a piece of your artwork with fellow PAA members. It's a chance to invite input and share ideas about how you create your art, tips and suggestions.

This will be part of our monthly meeting and will be held at the Sam Johnson Center. (401 W 16th Street, Plano, TX 75075)

Reminder: Our approach to critiquing with John’s guidance is when anyone wishes to share an opinion about another's artwork, they will preface their observations with the phrase: "If it were mine..." then follow with your thoughts and suggestions. That will make it clear that we are sharing our own opinions and not judging as "right or wrong." So bring one of your best, or one of your struggles, to Sam Johnson Centre and enjoy the observations of other PAA folks.

Did you know you can give money to the PAA just by using Amazon Smile. Instead of using the general Amazon website, sign on the Amazon Smile. Designate Plano Art Association as your charity and any purchases you make will have a small percentage of the Amazon profit go to the PAA instead. It is an easy way to give money, and you pay the same price for the items on Amazon Smile as you would for the regular Amazon. Just think if all of our members (and maybe their family and friends) would do this as a habit. It would really help our budget.
