DREAM Act and #NoMuslimBanEver |
|
Washington, DC- Today JACL National collaborated with other AAPI groups and Undocublack in efforts to get the DREAM Act passed before the December 8th deadline. December 8 is the date by which Congress must pass its spending bill to keep the government open and running. We are advocating that any spending bill must include the DREAM Act as a part of that bill.
Call your Senators and Representative and ask them to support DREAMers by not voting for a spending bill that does not include the DREAM Act.
In other news this week, the Supreme Court ruled that the latest iteration of the Muslim ban may go into effect as the court challenges proceed. This week the Muslim ban case will be heard in two separate cases before the United States Court of Appeals.

Update: JACL and 18 Million Rising Petition to Internet Retailers |
Washington, D.C. - On Cyber Monday, JACL and 18 Million Rising launched a petition urging internet retailers Amazon and eBay to remove insensitively marketed items suggesting Japanese American prison camp art as "A Great Decoration for Home/Office."
So far the petition has gained over 3,000 signatures.
JACL and 18 Million Rising previously worked to press Walmart to remove similarly offensively marketed items from their website and continue to work with them to ensure this does not happen again.
We urge other internet retailers to follow Walmart's lead and choosing not to profit from the pain of our incarceration experience and take down these insensitively marketed pieces.
For those who wish to obtain the World War II photos of the Japanese American incarceration experience, you may do so for FREE at the National Archives and Library of Congress online repositories. See here and here.
