JA can have a lifelong impact. But don't take my word for it.

At a networking event in March, I was introduced to a young man in his 20s who worked for Milwaukee Tool. After a few minutes of chatting, we exchanged the inevitable question of, “So, what do you do?” I was impressed to learn that he was the only person on his IT team asked to lead a project in China for the next month, now his third professional trip to that country. When I explained that my role was serving as president of JA of Wisconsin, he exclaimed, “JA changed my life!” and proceeded to give me a hug. He explained he had grown up under difficult circumstances and credited a trip to JA BizTown and other JA programming for teaching him what it would take to realize his dreams and become financially successful. Not only did he earn a college degree, but he also owns several properties and is able to support family. He went on to tell me we need to continue the good work of JA. Wow.

As volunteers, teachers and staff, we often see learning that takes place in the moment working with students. Less frequently, we get to see the long-term and life-changing impact of that work. When we do, we are the lucky ones.

We're in the Final Stretch
Students may be excited they only have 2 months of school left, but for JA staff, time is running out to find classroom volunteers this spring. With several hundred classes in need of a volunteer, we need your help! We supply all the materials you need and make sure you’re trained before you connect with students. It’s an easy thing for you to do, but it can be life-changing for students in your community.

How can you help? If you have already volunteered, can you make time to do it once more this spring or encourage a friend, family member, or colleague to become a JA volunteer? If you haven’t volunteered yet this year, please consider it! To find the JA classes near you, please email info@jawis.org.
