A Note from the Director

Dear Families,

I join you this week to express heartfelt thanks to all the Ivymount staff for their efforts in supporting our students. I feel fortunate to work with such dedicated and caring individuals who carry out our  mission every day.

I'm also grateful for our partnership with parents and caregivers. Thank you for your collaboration and support of the Ivymount School PTA. Your generosity during staff appreciation week and throughout the year makes our staff feel valued and recognized.

As we look ahead, there are some exciting events on the horizon that we hope you'll be a part of. Our student businesses are now accepting orders for their hand-made items and plants, a wonderful opportunity to support their entrepreneurial spirit. Ivymount Outreach is teaming up with Music for Autism for a guitar quintet concert here at Ivymount on May 11, promising an evening of beautiful music. Our Professional Collaborative's Spring Lecture Series concludes on May 15 with a thought-provoking discussion about neurodiversity. And for our High School and Post High School students, Prom is just around the corner on May 17! We've included details and links below for your convenience.

Endeavors Students Return to Koiner Farm

Koiner Farm is a non-profit farm committed to protecting and sustaining urban farms. While working on the farm, students are learning about growing healthy foods, building healthy soil, and eating fresh local produce in order to create a more sustainable food system. In addition to harvesting crops, workers also have the opportunity to aid in setting up Koiner Farm's Farmstand, a neighborhood farm market that opens on Thursday evenings.

Food Is a Tasty Way to Learn!

During the month of April, students in the Aspire Post High School program learned about Arab American Heritage Month. They made Middle Eastern-inspired dishes in cooking class. The menu included Kofta Kebabs, Quinoa Tabbouleh, Lebanese Fattoush Salad, Hummus and Pita Chips.

They also made a trip to Z&Z – Manoushe Bakery in Rockville where they practiced ordering and paying for their flatbreads to go.
