A Note from the Director

Dear Families,

We rolled out the red carpet for prom and our High School and Post High School students didn't disappoint, as they showed up looking glamorous and ready for a fun evening. Thank you to our many staff volunteers for making the Ivymount School Prom possible.

A reminder that next weekend is a long weekend for the Memorial Day holiday. Then, we'll enjoy a series of end of school year events! All of us at Ivymount School are committed to making each remaining day the most effective it can be for our students as we also recognize the hard work they've put in this year.

Prom

Congratulations to our High School and Post High School programs for hosting a spectacular Prom! The APR was beautifully decorated, and our students looked absolutely stunning in their elegant attire. Many thanks to the Prom committee and the dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to plan and execute such a memorable event.

Do you need indoor or outdoor plants? Students in the Aspire Post High School Garden Grove business are ready to take your orders. They've been hard at work growing a wide range of herbs, vegetables, flowers and house plants from seedlings that are now ready for your garden or pots.

The horticulture program teaches students vocational and independent living skills. All proceeds are used to sustain the program. Order Your Plants Online

Celebrating the Work of SLP's

Did you know that May is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month? It's the perfect time to celebrate our expert team of Speech Language Pathologists, who help learners live their best lives by providing essential treatment with care and compassion. Join us this month in taking the time to say "thank you" to an SLP!

IvyShares Fair Highlights Fellowships

Interdisciplinary collaboration, curiosity and a desire to add to to the field of special education were on display at this week's annual IvyShares Fair. As part of Ivymount's ongoing commitment to investing in staff excellence, IvyShares awards fellowships to staff in the Ivymount School, The Maddux School, and Ivymount Outreach who undertake a special project beyond their job description that supports our mission.

We are pleased that 18 staff across 10 projects shared their work with the whole organization during the fair on topics such as culturally responsive education, a collaborative language group curriculum, and a new Outreach group on "Staying Unstuck."

Favorite Things Spur OT Practice

The OT dept worked with students on a project recently where they each identified five things they like to do in OT. The answers ranged from writing and typing, to crafts and games, to outdoor play and even cooking. Just as importantly, during the project, students worked on fine motor skills of coloring, cutting, gluing, and producing written output through handwriting, typing and speech to text based on their individual needs.

The full color, hardback book includes all High School and Post High School students, dedicated pages for each classroom, special activities, clubs, groups, etc. You can also commemorate their year in a special way by purchasing a personal ad, a business ad, or by becoming a yearbook patron.

Make Use of Your Used Sneakers

The PTA's sneaker fundraiser is ongoing. All sneakers (pairs only) can be sent with your student to school in a bag or box labeled “PTA sneaker drive”. You can also drop off sneakers in the bin labeled “PTA sneaker fundraiser” located in the main lobby. If you have more than 12 pairs of sneakers please email Ivymount parent, Trish Stone at trish.stone@yahoo.com and she will coordinate to get you a labeled bag ready to ship.
