Helping you keep your cool

Whew! I hope you are all staying safe in this heat. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the last ten years have been the hottest since weather record-keeping began, and this dangerous trend will continue. The CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) predicts that within the next 25 years, the average number of heat wave days will rise from 4 to 48 per year.

These are not abstract risks. Over two dozen deaths have been attributed to this heat wave. Our district has been receiving daily air quality alerts. High air conditioning and water bills are costing us money.

Climate change is real. It’s dangerous. And it’s costly.

That’s why over the past two years I’ve supported legislative action to address it.

  • I co-sponsored a major climate bill. We passed this bill in the House, but ran out of time in the Senate. If re-elected, I will fight to get it over the finish line.

  • I voted in favor of an act allowing the state to invest funds on behalf of municipalities that establish Coastal Resiliency Reserve Funds.

In the last two years we have created incentives for expanding solar canopies, increased hydropower to our grid and expanded offshore wind procurement. We’ve provided funding to towns to deal with harmful chemicals like PFAS, such as our district discovered around Parkway School last year. And we banned PFAS from many consumer products.

Know that if I’m re-elected, I will fight to protect our community from the threats of an overheating climate. I am proud to have the endorsement of the CT Sierra Club in recognition of my record.

If you’d like to join my campaign, I'd love to have you. Volunteer and donate here. And if you can’t spare the time, then just make a note to vote this November.

Please stay hydrated and cool this week,
