Free Family Fun at ...

Parksville’s Canada Day Celebrations!

The City of Parksville has an amazing family-friendly day planned to bring together our region’s residents and visitors to celebrate Canada’s 157th on July 1 in Parksville. Free family-friendly festivities kick off with the Shriners breakfast and the popular Canada Day parade along Island Highway East. Then it’s activities all day in the Parksville Community Park so bring your lawn chairs and bathing suits! A variety of family entertainment, including Bobs & LoLo, face painter, food trucks, Canada Day cake, and live music through early evening.

PARADE

The annual Canada Day parade starts at 10 am from Shelly Road, travels along Island Highway East turning at Craig Street. Road closures are in place from 9.30 am until noon with detour route, road closures, and parade route shown on the map below.

LIVE MUSIC

The Parksville Outdoor Theatre will feature Bobs & Lolo for the young and young at heart, and the band, The Apollos, will provide afternoon dance music.


There’s live music at the waterfront gazebo and gathering plaza from 1 to 9 pm. Check out talented local musicians Sylvia Humble, Tom Mulder, Woodstick Duo, George Garrett, Jesse Epp, Fred Saliani, and Chaz Booth. More info on Let’s Talk Parksville.

FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL

There’s a food truck festival planned with these trucks ready to serve you by 11 am on Canada Day, all located near the sports fields in the Parksville Community Park. You can find out more about the food trucks through their websites and social media sites. Lineup and locations available here.

THINGS TO KNOW

  • Bring your chairs or blankets to Parksville Outdoor Theatre. 
  • Sandcastle Drive to Arbutus Point closed to vehicles for the day with accessible parking in the park and general parking in the lot behind the curling rink.
  • Lions Ventureland Playground, splash park and Parksville Bay beach open for visitors.

The City and Parksville Downtown Business Association are hosting Dance with Me at Memorial events at the Memorial Plaza, Alberni Highway and Memorial Avenue. It’s a chance to learn some new dance moves with free dance instruction by Sara Raymond Dance Academy and music by our favourite DJ, Dave Graham. Dust off your dancing (runners) shoes and join in the fun again this year. Dance with Me at Memorial is a fun, active and social community event for all ages. Bring your family, friends, or come meet others while you learn new dance moves, spectators welcome and no dance experience required. 

CITY SERVICES

Property Taxes - Due Tuesday, July 2

If you have not received your 2024 tax notice, phone 250 248-6144. Payments must be received, and homeowner grants claimed by due date of July 2 to avoid a penalty. All eligible homeowners are required to apply for their homeowner grant with the Province of BC at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or by phone at 1 888 355-2700. When making a payment at a bank or through online banking, allow minimum of two business days for bank processing. Regardless of method, payment must be received at the City by July 2 or be subjected to an immediate 5% penalty. An additional 5% penalty will be applied to current year property taxes outstanding at the end of business on September 16. Penalties are also applied to any unclaimed homeowner grants.

We’re redesigning and replacing our City website to be more user friendly, accessible and customer focused and wish to improve the experience for residents, businesses and visitors when viewing our website. Your feedback is valuable to this process. As well, it will be beneficial for us to know how you prefer to receive information from the City and how you prefer to provide your feedback. Water Restriction Stage 2

Stage 2 is in effect through September 30 (unless otherwise notified). Stage 2 allows for every other day lawn watering between 7-10 am OR 7-10 pm for a maximum of two hours. Vegetable gardens and fruit trees are exempt from all watering restrictions. Details on our website. Questions to bylaw@parksville.ca.

No Open Burning or Fireworks

Parksville Fire Rescue reminds residents in the Parksville Fire Protection Area that all open burning and outdoor fires, excluding cooking fires, are prohibited. At this time, campfires are allowed. Please be aware, beach fires in the Parksville Qualicum Wildlife Management are always prohibited by provincial legislation. Fireworks are prohibited in the City as is the sale of any type of fireworks. Report beach fires to RAPP line at 1 877 952-7277 and fireworks should be reported to the RCMP.

Our next regular Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 1 pm.
