A message from the Educational Advisory Committee...

Dear Teachers,

On behalf of the Palmetto Bay Education Advisory Committee, we would like to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to your students and your school. While we know that words are not enough to show you the gratitude that you deserve, we hope that you are able to smile knowing that you are appreciated by us all year long.

Our committee is comprised of former teachers and advocates for public education and we are committed to ensuring that all schools, teachers and students within the Village of Palmetto Bay and our education compact with MDCPS work together in partnership to continue to achieve high success in all areas of the schoolhouse.

We wish you a Happy Teacher Appreciation month and hope you have a restful and reflective summer!

Thank you again!

Teacher Appreciation Week

In recognition of the many amazing teachers that serve our children and live in our community, Mayor Karyn Cunningham, accompanied by members of the Educational Advisory Committee and their Council Liaison, Vice Mayor Leanne Tellam, recognized Palmetto Bay school teachers, Susan Pierpoint and Donna Underwood during last night's Regular Council Meeting.

Susan Pierpoint is retiring from teaching after 35 years of service to our community. She has taught our local children the benefits of physical exercise at Coral Reef Elementary for 16 years. Her “PE Teacher for the Day” certificates have always been amongst the top sellers at the annual silent auctions, and she has provided service to the school in countless ways. Ms. Pierpoint also attended Coral Reef Elementary when she was a kid! We are so fortunate to count her as a resident of our community and wish her a well earned retirement.

Donna Underwood is an art teacher at Westminster Christian School, but she is also a talented multimedia artist and book illustrator! Known for her collaborative spirit, Mrs. Underwood has cultivated a positive learning environment that facilitates teaching and learning.  We are not only celebrating her tenure as a teacher, but also her retirement. She will always be remembered by her students, and our Palmetto Bay community in general, for her passion and love for art and teaching.

These two individuals truly represent the caliber of educators that we have in Palmetto Bay. It's no wonder our schools are A-rated!

The certificates were not only awarded to the two teachers mentioned, but were also symbolically presented to all Palmetto Bay teachers for imprinting knowledge onto our children, advocating for education and for their commitment to making our world a better place through pedagogy.

You Too Can Recognize A Special Teacher!
