It's So Hard to Believe

Watch this brief video from Green Renaissance about the wild wisdom of bees.

Take three minutes to listen to The Many's song, "We Are Enough," linked above. It's worth a listen, just for the beauty of the voices and a few moments to breathe deeply.

That said, the first lyrics are: "It's so easy to hide, so easy to lie, pretend and go along and act like nothing's wrong. But it's so hard to believe that what we can do will be enough."

Isn't that the truth? Even if your personal life is worry free, the world is on fire in a thousand ways. It is easy to believe that there is only scarcity—not enough to go around, not enough to keep the peace, not enough to look to the future with hope.

But the simple lyrics of this song point to a deeper truth, one that philosophers and wise ones—even God's own self in Jesus—have tried to help us see more clearly. Jesus embodied the idea that God's abundant love lived out right here (even with the help of imperfect people) was enough to bring transformation.

"The simplest step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world."

—Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

"Jesus said, 'My kingdom is not of this world...for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth hears me.'"

—John 18:36 and 38

It is so hard to believe the truth sometimes. How will you embody God's love this week? Where do you feel fear or lack? Why? What courage do you need to live the truth that, through God, we are enough to bring about transformation even in the spaces and places where your own sense of fear or lack is strong? Who needs to see that same truth lived through you this week?
