A WORD FROM EACH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL...

As the country commemorates National Custodial Worker's Recognition Day, the Village of Palmetto Bay, along with the members of the Education Advisory Committee, would like to publicly recognize the custodians here at our Palmetto Bay schools. The names of all the men and women who perform this important work are listed below, and the principal from each school was asked to identify one custodian who really goes above and beyond as they perform their crucial duties. Please join us as we acknowledge and thank these valued members of our community!

Mr. Corker has a sunny disposition; he always facilitates his work with a smile and meets the expectations of the administrative team. He is currently at his 32nd year of service with Miami Dade County Public Schools, with 15 of those years as the Head Custodian. Mr. Corker is a very important part of my Leadership Team. He deserves recognition.

Vilma Trueba, our Lead Custodian, goes above and beyond. Her attention to detail and the pride that she takes in her work is evident in every area of our facility.  She leads by example and her work ethic is outstanding. In the absence of our head custodian since May, Ms. Trueba has worked countless hours throughout the summer to ensure that our facility was ready for our families. Ms. Trueba is One In A Million!

Maria Elena Prieto takes pride in helping to keep our school pristine. She treats CRE like it is her house, is very meticulous in her cleaning, and is determined to make sure that everyone walks into a spotless school.

Vitonia "Tony" Holley (Head Custodian) Mr. Tony Holley’s enthusiasm for Southwood Middle School and passion for excellence have earned him an enviable reputation as an exemplary leader among colleagues, parents, and students. Mr. Holley's contribution to Southwood Middle exceeds all the titles he currently possesses; Head Custodian, Boys Varsity Basketball Coach, Security and student mentor. To speak of Mr. Holley is to speak of his love of students and his belief all children can learn, especially in the pristine environment he so lovingly provides.

Maria Medina is my head custodian. Not only has she supervised what I would consider to be the best custodial group in the district, but she has also assisted with all of the needs of the construction crew for the past 5 years. She has been on call every weekend since construction has started and still does an amazing job.

About National Custodial Worker's Day

For over 25 years, October 2 has been commemorated as National Custodial Worker's Recognition Day. We all appreciate our sparkling schools and squeaky-clean offices, but we don't always notice the men and women who work so hard to create these safe and pleasant environments for us. This holiday was created to recognize their importance and thank them for everything they do.
