Share the Love with My Furry Valentine!
Love is in the air! Especially at Kitsap Humane Society, where adorable kittens will have you smitten, and wet-nose cuties will have you falling in puppy love!

Not everyone can adopt a pet but anyone can send a token of their love during our My Furry Valentine event presented by Kitsap Propane through Feb. 14!

Your valentine donation will help cover the cost of caring for pets here at the shelter, and will help us rescue more who need our help! Pets who receive valentines will receive extra love and promotion on social media to help them find their forever homes.

Visit our website to choose your valentine! And be sure to follow us on Instagram to watch the love roll in during this fun event!

Volunteer Drivers Needed
If you're a good driver and want to help shelter pets, consider becoming a volunteer driver! This position has flexible hours for animal lovers who want to volunteer but can't commit to a regular schedule.

Drivers are needed to pick up pets who come to us from other shelters and rescues through our Rescue Me program. As a volunteerm you might pick up pets arriving by air at SeaTac, or meet in a nearby city to pick up animals arriving via ground transport. Or you may be asked to transport pets to and from our offsite adoption locations, such as PetSmart in Lacey. Some trips may require driving a Kitsap Humane Society vehicle, while others may permit you to drive your own vehicle.

"I am able to give a few hours of my time and literally save lives," said volunteer Molly Clark. "Many of these pets come from high-kill shelters with no other options. I'm so proud to be a part of this team."

New Behavior Training Center Update
Great news! The dog kennels in the old shelter have been demolished and crews are about to pour the concrete flooring for our new Canine Behavior Training Center. The center will provide new and improved spaces for staff and volunteers to provide behavior training and playtime for shelter dogs in our care.

If you love animals and support the lifesaving work of Kitsap Humane Society, consider remembering KHS in your will and estate plans. It’s a beautiful way to leave a legacy and will ensure that animals in our community get the care they need and deserve for years to come. Watch the video to learn more about our work and our founding role in Leave 10 Kitsap, a movement to encourage and inspire charitable giving.

Adorable Adoptable
Meet Honey Bear!
Honey Bear is very energetic and loves to run around in the yard! She doesn't yet understand the parameters of fetch, but she gets very into the spirit of the activity! She loves treats, and with some positive reinforcement she would love to learn fetch! Once Honey Bear warms up to you, she will come over to snuggle after a good play session. If you're looking for a sweet and shy dog who loves to run around and play, Honey Bear is here to sweeten up your life!
Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Paxton Rohr !
Paxton started volunteering at KHS in October 2019 and hit the ground running! Paxton comes in several days a week to help with dog walking, in addition to helping on our transfer team and assisting with any one-off tasks we have here at the shelter. Recently, Paxton made the decision to go through the training needed to become an advanced handler to assist in supporting our higher-need pups and act as a mentor to new dog walking volunteers. Paxton, we are so happy to have you on the team and watch you grow as a volunteer! You’re helping save so many lives.
Staff Spotlight
Meet Kelly Weatherly!
This month's Staff Spotlight is shining on Animal Care Associate Kelly Weatherly, a compassionate animal lover and devoted KHS employee!

Kelly began working for Kitsap Humane Society in November 2018 after deciding to transition from a career in retail to doing what she loves most -- caring for animals! Each day Kelly serves as a welcoming friend and caretaker to dozens of pets who come through our shelter doors.

"Kelly is like a cheerleader for all the Animal Care staff. She always spins things to the positive side to improve her co-worker’s day. She has a huge heart for both the animals and her coworkers," says Shelter Manager, Bobby Cook.

Kelly has a huge heart for animals, especially for small animals and farm animals in need. So much so, she has adopted 13 animals from KHS including two cats, one dog, three parakeets, two
zebra finches, two chickens, a goose, a bunny, and a turtle! Thank you, Kelly, for showering KHS shelter pets with love and care while they await their forever homes!

Our veterinarian team vaccinated 18 cats and dogs while a crew of KHS volunteers distributed dog and cat food to low-income families and individuals.
