Community Center Meeting This Wednesday

The first community meeting for the planned Community Center is this Wednesday, September 27, at 7 p.m. at the Township Building on Wentz Road.

Residents and interested parties will have the opportunity to discuss their vision for the center and share their opinions with elected officials, professional consultants, and Township staff members.

The Board of Supervisors selected a team of consultants led by Phillips & Donovan Architects to help design a community center. The Board recently added Ballard King & Associates to the consultant team as they specialize in operational audits and assessments for recreational facilities.

The need for a community center was identified in the Township's most recent Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update. The center is being made possible by a generous $10 million donation.

You may view the meeting virtually using the link below. However, you must be present at the Township Building to comment and participate.

Township Manager To Retire In 2024

Longtime Whitpain Township Manager Roman Pronczak will retire in 2024.

Roman has served as Township Manager since January 3, 2011. He came to Whitpain from Upper Merion Township in 1996 to serve as Township Engineer. Roman took over the Assistant Manager role under former Township Manager Phyllis Lieberman in 2005 and was appointed Township Manager in 2011 when Phyllis retired.

Roman informed the Board of Supervisors of his plan on Tuesday.

“I have been fortunate to serve the residents and business community of Whitpain for over 27 years,” Roman said. “I've enjoyed every day working for Whitpain Township and continue to be excited about coming to our Township building.”

Board of Supervisors Chair Scott Badami said the Supervisors are happy for Roman and grateful beyond words for his service.

“We will have a lot more to say about Roman before he leaves,” Scott said. “He’s with us for several more months and we look forward to his continued stewardship. Whitpain has been served exceedingly well by Roman's steady and caring hand.”

Update To Comprehensive Plan Progressing

Consultants from Simone Collins Landscape Architecture have been collecting public feedback to help guide potential updates to the Township’s Comprehensive Plan. Two meetings were held last week, and a presentation was offered at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on September 19.

The plan update covers two specific topics, examining potential uses for vacant office space in the Township’s southeastern corner and addressing challenges created by the loss of parking and front yard space to properties located along the Route 202 corridor.

The conversation regarding vacant office spaces focused on potential adaptive reuses and/or replacing some office space with residential units. As part of this effort, the consultants are examining traffic impacts and school district impacts.

The Route 202 corridor examination looked at potential ways to address parking loss due to the widening project, including creating incentives for shared parking and encouraging property owners to explore shared access easements. Additionally, there may be opportunities to encourage a reimagined streetscape featuring enhanced landscape standards and improved connectivity.

The consultants plan to offer an update at the Planning Commission meeting on October 10 and will appear at the Board of Supervisors’ meetings on October 17 and November 21.

Leaf Collection Set For Monday & Wednesday

Residents who live on the south side of Skippack Pike will have leaves and yard waste collected on Monday, September 25 and residents north of Skippack Pike will have leaves collected on Wednesday, September 27.

Click here for the 2023 leaf and yard waste collection calendar

Leaves must be placed in biodegradable paper bags and put out at the curb the evening before the scheduled collection. As a reminder, please don’t rake leaves to the curb and do not place leaf waste and branch trimmings in plastic bags or in trash can containers. They will not be collected.

If your pickup is missed, you must call the Township the day of collection at 610-277-2400. This program is not available to private communities.

The Township does not sell paper bags for leaf collection. Bags are available for purchase at many hardware stores, supermarkets and warehouse stores.

Happy Birthday Patricia

The Board of Supervisors was joined by a group of neighbors and staff members in recognizing Township resident Patricia Plumb, who will celebrate her 100th birthday later this month.

The long-time resident has lived in the Township since the late 1940’s and previously worked at the Blue Bell Post Office and owned Troll House Antiques with her husband
