District staff present mid-year report on progress toward goals

At the February 16 regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Education, district staff presented a mid-year report highlighting the growth across the district in the goal areas identified in the Local Control and Accountability Plan, including:


  1. Goal 1 - Develop college and career readiness skills through meaningful collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and stewardship.
  2. Goal 2 - Foster social-emotional competencies and self-identity through student agency, engagement, and positive relationships.
  3. Goal 3 - Ensure safe, equitable, and inclusive schools through caring learning environments, targeted support, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.


The report highlighted the strategies used to measure student progress and develop individualized learning plans. In addition, to support authentic and relevant learning, LBUSD launched K-12 unit design opportunities for teachers to engage and empower students through high-interest, relevant and meaningful learning experiences this fall. Laguna Beach High School Principal provides update on 2022-23 school year

Principal Jason Allemann, Ed.D., presented a report to the board sharing the school's focus on elevating student voice and choice. This is demonstrated in the increased options for support and growth on the school campus, including four-year course planning, college and career readiness enrollment options and individualized learning plans for students needing additional support. Board adopts Resolution 23-02 in Support of Families for Laguna Youth


On Thursday evening, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education adopted Resolution 23-02 in support of Families for Laguna Youth, an advocacy group established to provide a unified voice for families with children living in Laguna Beach and those who have a strong interest in supporting youth in Laguna.

Board approves 2023-24 District and School Safety Plan

The 2023-24 District and School Site Safety Plan was approved by the Board of Education at its regularly scheduled meeting on February 16. This year, Section 8.8 Emergency Communications was updated and  an appendix item with Cyber Security Standards was added. You can view the updated plan here

Board adopts Resolution 23-01 in Support of Governance Protocols

The Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education has developed a Board Member Guide Book which contains norms and protocols that outline expectations board members hold for one another. The guide book will be reviewed and updated annually. At its February 16 meeting, the Board took action to adopt Resolution 23-01 in Support of Governance Protocols, agreeing to adhere to the adopted norms and protocols. The resolution passed with a vote of 4-1, with Member Perry dissenting.
