Here is a letter recently submitted by Melanie Kurdys to key senate and administration leaders regarding the pending vote by the senate on HB 4111, which has already cleared the house. She makes a very good observation: we may lose our "conservative" majority on this hill.
Please follow Melanie's lead and contact your senator, the governor, the attorney general...let them know how important this vote and future considerations of Medicaid expansion are to the future of this state and, for that matter, the future of the Republican party and all that it stands for!
Dear Senators, Governor Snyder and Atty. General Schuette,
I know you folks believe you are doing what's best for Michigan with the hand we have been dealt, but consider the recommendation offered in this Heritage Foundation article by Nina Owcharenko, Director of the Center for Health Policy Studies: eliminate funding for Medicaid expansion and health care exchanges to help balance the budget. If this happens, then where will we be? And wouldn't you agree that balancing the federal budget would be better for all of us?
There are still active legal cases against Obamacare. If you believe the Supreme Court is at all persuaded by what else is happening in the US, the willingness of states to stand firm against this federal over-reach is a powerful message. Although Obama won the election, Republicans still control many states. We have an obligation to lead.
I spoke with a Michigan legislator the other day who said he is preparing to be in the minority after the next election. You can head this way and imagine you have done your best on our way down, or you can stand up and fight to the end. There are an incredible number of patriots in Michigan who will stand by your side in this battle. Our bravery may actually be rewarded with a win! But either way, we can all stand by the fact we did in fact defend the constitution..
Thank you, Melanie Kurdys
