Do It In Durham Entrepreneurship Week 

 Local businesses are invited to register for Do It In Durham Entrepreneurship Weeka celebration of entrepreneurship with activities, events and seminars that focus on learning, sharing, networking and building new strategies. 


Each year, Durham Region’s business support, educational and networking organizations come together to encourage and support entrepreneurs, job creators and innovators who create economic growth in Durham. 


The event runs November 18 to 22 as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week with most events free and hosted at various locations across the region and online.  


Do It In Durham is open to everyone from entrepreneurs, small business owners, innovators, investors, policy makers, city leaders, small business champions—anyone who wants to know more about entrepreneurship and get connected to Durham Region’s vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem.

 Virtual Public Information Centre: Port Perry Sanitary Sewage Plan 

Engage in the planning process and contribute to the future development of the Port Perry Employment Area.  

 

A virtual Public Information Centre (PIC) on the sanitary sewage servicing needs of the Port Perry Employment Area in the Township of Scugog is open until September 30

 

The PIC will include: 

  • A project overview of the Port Perry Sanitary Sewage Pumping Station (SSPS) Municipal Class EA; 
  • An evaluation of alternative solutions and information on the recommended solution; 
  • Direction on how you may provide feedback on the recommended solution; and, 
  • Information regarding next steps in the process. 


Comments received will be considered when determining a preferred sanitary servicing plan for the vacant and privately serviced land within the Port Perry Employment Area.

 Robert Small: A Champion of Black Art

and Cultural Legacy 

Robert Small is a celebrated Canadian artist who has documented the lives and achievements of Black Canadians with his Black History Month Legacy posters for almost 30 years. 


He developed his passion for drawing as a child, but Small’s influence today extends far beyond the arts. He is a public speaker, educator and advocate for culturally relevant teaching. 


He has received numerous accolades for his contributions including being named a Member of the Order of Canada for his efforts in promoting positive imagery of Black people, advocating for anti-racism, and empowering Black youth.  


“The more we learn about the contributions of all members of society, from all walks of life, the better our society will be,” says Small.  


Through his work, Robert is helping to portray more inclusivity and diversity in Canadian society.

Register For The North Durham

Building Business Forum 

Business leaders in north Durham are encouraged to register for the North Durham Building Business Forum


Join small and medium-sized business owners, entrepreneurs and community partners on October 22 to build strategic connections as well as learn about available business supports in Durham Region. The event will also feature a keynote session on incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into your business with Dr. Peter Lewis, a Canada Research Chair in Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence at Ontario Tech University, while Allison Hector-Alexander, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the Region of Durham, will chair a panel on leading with inclusion in the workplace. 


A plated dinner will be served and there is a $10 fee to attend with proceeds being donated to North House which provides housing supports for those who are at risk or in crisis within the communities of North Durham.

Angel Investors Durham To Spotlight

Hunger Action Month 

September is Hunger Action Month and this month’s Angel Investors Durham meeting on September 11 will spotlight food-related companies in consideration of food insecurity.  

Two exceptional food and food tech companies who are raising capital as well as a group of start-ups tackling food scarcity head on will pitch and participate in a trade show style presentation. 

 

Community partners such as Durham Outlook for the Needy, Durham District School Board's Ignite Durham Learning Foundation, and Social Impact Hub at Durham College will also take part in the meeting.

On July 4, Ontario Tech University and a key group of international partners brought together leading nuclear and clean technology experts to discuss strategies at a Clean Energy Summit in Cairo, Egypt. The event focused on the applications in the rapidly emerging realm of small modular reactors (SMRs), along with clean-energy technologies. 


A Durham College alumnus was recently nominated at the 2024 Canadian Live Music Awards. Brendan Kennedy was nominated in the Road Warrior (Tour Manager) of the Year category for his more than 10 years on the road with bands including The Glorious Sons, Valley and Billy Talent. 


Ontario Tech University has won the Professional Engineers Ontario (York Chapter) Engineering Research Project of the Year award for its work on Project Arrow. The Project Arrow mission is to develop Canada’s first zero-emission electric vehicle. Read more about the award
